That was on the news last night, so when you add all the other price increases it is over and above 3:8%:(

The real rate of inflation is well over 3.8%... maybe 3 times that..i'ts all a mystery to me where do this, or any past Governments get thier figures from?

Never thought about this before but now that I have I realise I don’t know.

When the rate of inflation figure is talked of for what duration is it relating to. I mean is it per week, per month or an annual figure ?

Not really up on what time they are supposed to represent but makes grim reading

There are 2 'price indexes'
Consumer price index and retail price index
Reading this link should explain the difference
National Statistics Online - Economic

but it leaves me clueless

All this on top of the term 'In real terms regarding the economy' (What the hell does that mean?) ...Petrol has not increased in price. Are they for real or do they think we are morons.

Cheers Margaret. Seems it’s an annual figure.

Looks like the 3.8% relates to the Consumer Price Index with an apparent rise of 0.7% on the month ( seems far higher to me as just about everyone else) That’s the figure the Bank of England is supposed to meet.

The Producer Price Index looks a bit gloomy. That’s running at an increase of 2.3% on the month which they say equates to 30.3% on the year….wait while that gets passed on to us as it no doubt will :o

I'm just assuming I'm reading things right, complex stuff innit

You have to love those “In real terms” statements don’t you. They need to get out of Whitehall a bit more often and take a look at reality. :(

It's quite simple really. The inflation rate is based on the price of things you don't really need and things that have gone down in price due to cheap Chinese imports.
Every thing you do need like food gas electric and water are not included in the figures Oh and petrol.
This all because we are deemed to be thick by all political parties.Who are guided by over- paid civil servants,Permanent secretarys.secretarys to them and under secretarys to them.None of whom can type.

Rant over:gooddog:

Remember that Brown has only postponed this.

I’d like to think that it was out of compassion, somehow I reckon it’s linked to the up and coming by-election in Glasgow :(

And the 20p tax hike is still on the statute books....rebates,I am led to believe are on the cards, but, the legislation is still there to impliment in full if Darling Alister chooses to use it.

Its not enough to defer the 2p increase it needs to start coming down.
Does Gordon think by doing this that all is forgiven?

What people don't seem to realise and nothing much is ever made of it is that this country are around £22 billion in debt and that the trade gap is now between £50 and £60 billion, the Brown ship is in stormy waters and there doesn't seam to be anyway out but floundering on the beach:eek:

Slight thread creep, love your dog's photo, we used to have a German Shepard as well, sadly died last year.
