Ahhh right, thanks Pam. :)

Funny you should mention nuisance calls. I've had two calls this week from the NSPCC, asking for money.

I think they call them marketing calls but I agree with you, they are nuisance calls. :(

We've had a few calls from Sky recently, wanting to sell us insurance.

Why has this just started?

We are ex-directory too.

Yeah had a few nuisance calls so far this week, one on monday and two today.
We get them all the time even though i called that number which is supposed to block the calls.
They really wind you up especially when its first thing at morning or when you are having your tea!

You can't count a phone call off your mother as a nuisance call:eek:

We've just got caller I.D set up so in future we won't be answering any calls that say withheld!

It's not easy.

Some of our family have withheld their numbers so we can't always see who's calling.

If I look at the screen and it's one of those 0870 numbers then I won't answer it but if I'm upstairs or in the kitchen then one of the kids will pick it up, pass it to me then I get stuck with them. :(

Re: noises phone calls

just tell them you are registered with the tps they soon apologise and end the call!!!

Loz 23-07-2008 22:05

Re: noises phone calls

If it ends up being somebody i know who have withheld their number then they generally leave a message so i still ignore them and then call them back if thats the case.

Why give an excuse? Just tell them to go away as forcefully as the situation demands.

If you leave a phone connected to BT off the hook, after a couple of minutes or so you get a rather annoying loud noise, a sort of wah wah sound a bit like a police siren.

I don’t get all that many these days. Maybe its because of the way unwanted calls are treated. Those that are pre-recorded get the handset put down straight away. As for the others I ask who is calling and once it has been established that someone is trying to sell me something the handset goes down on the cradle. If I recognise the voice or the product/service being touted a few choice words precede the disconnection. Ranging from a polite “go away, I’m not interested” to something more fruity.

I think you'll find Llly that these calls about insurance for Sky are not actually from Sky, they are firms that make you think its Sky, I have always delt with Sky themselves and they don't phone the use the mail. at one time Iwas getting two or three calls a week, until it started gettng nasty, if you start to question them they just hang up.

I like to try and sell them something back, something along the lines of ," I'm glad you've rung, have you ever considered replacing your windows and doors?" and just keep interrupting them with details of a BOGOF.

See it as a bit of a challenge.

Got one this afternoon from somebody telling me how lucky I was, it was a recorded mesage so I couldn't abuse he sod, just put th phone down. I think these type of calls come from the good old US of A, wish they'd annoy George W. instead of me:mad:

We've had loads this week. They've been driving me up the wall. It does seem to have increased this week though.

I've had 4 today, telling me that I've won a cruise, so just hung up, but last 1 I decided to let him chat (he sounded like a nice American chap). Let him give me all the guff, and as soon as he asked for my credit card number (for admin fees) told him I don't give out card details, he soon disappeared. ;)

The tps doesnt work for 'varified research' according to somebody wh interrupted my tea again, but usually if you say you are registered (whether you are or not) they disappear smartish, have enough sales pitches on the works number to make bt profits go through the roof.

Re: noises phone calls

My hubby sometimes just sits the phone down(this was before the caller I.D)
and lets them ramble on for a couple of minutes then hangs up if they haven't already!
My mate shaz got a nuiance call trying to sell her a mobile and she told them where to go and hung up,two minutes later the phone rang again, shaz answered and asked who was calling and before she had finished speaking he told her where to go and hung up on her!
I guess he was pretty disgruntled!!
