|
Re: How popular is your name?
Mine has never been a particularly popular name, but I was surprised to find that it was number 462 in the fifties. It originates from the name Nicole (which I knew, lengthened to Nicolette, then shortened again to Colette) The site says it means Victory of the people. That surprised me a bit, as Nicole comes from Nicholas and in the most popular baby name books around Nicole means the same as Nicholas 'Protector of children' Guess I'm in the right job then.. :)

Re: How popular is your name?
"John - God is gracious, merciful."
Well, he'll need to be with me! Spent much of the first half of the century as the first, second, third or fourth choice name. The 1990's saw it drop to 14th. place, I'm obviously as common as muck but getting less so as I age. |
Re: How popular is your name?
You're quite right about the peak of popularity for your name in the 60's , Scott.....you're named after a puppet character in "Thunderbirds". In fact, if you wait a couple of weeks you'll be able to go and see yourself on the Big Screen when the piccy is released.
I feel sorry for all these guys called Jason....they're named after a TV character from the late 60's/early 70's called Jason King...trouble is, the series was suddenley taken off the air after the actor who played him was caught doing something naughty with another bloke in the gents bogs at Bristol docks. Thats why you won't find many Jasons over the age of 35 and none at all below the age of 30. |
Re: How popular is your name?
I`m named after scott sellars actually.
|
Re: How popular is your name?
Never heard of him. Who is he? Your dad?
|
Re: How popular is your name?
No a football player that played for blackburn rovers in the 80`s. Think he was a right winger or midfielder.
|
Re: How popular is your name?
Thats when Blackburn would have been in the old third division....he did'nt come from Accy, did he by any chance?.....if so, some of this lot on here would want him in the Hall of Fame...
Is that why you play tennis? bored with footy? I'm not surprised, really. |
Re: How popular is your name?
No i go to every blackburn game and i play more footy than tennis. Blackburn were in the old second division when he was there, when they kept missing out on promotion to the top flight. Dont think he was local.
|
Re: How popular is your name?
Scott Sellars started his career at Leeds United and was sold to Blackburn around 1986 where he stayed for about six years and then went back to Leeds. I think he may have gone to Newcastle after that. He was a left sided midfielder and a pretty good player.

Re: How popular is your name?
I popped over her first to check a few things out first
http://www.lawontheweb.co.uk/basics/changeofname.htm From now on I want to be known, legally of course, as CONAN the BARBARIAN, slayer of women. Sure enough it tells me that this name means WISE. So it must be a wise thing to do. I found a few others too... Brooklyn - means Brook, or stream. I always thought it was a bridge. Elmo - means Protector. Woody - means from the name Woods Woods - means of the Woods There are a few UK sites, but hey, I don't want to go there either. No, Conan definitely has a ring to it. I wonder what they will say in the office. |
Re: How popular is your name?
Patriotic mother Diane Bowe,34, has named her seventh son Michael Wayne Rooney Coathup in honour of England's youngest goalscorer Wayne Rooney and his strike counterpart Michael Owen. Mrs Bowe, of Prenton, Merseyside said :'We are big Everton fans, rather than Liverpool, but the name Michael sounded good with Wayne'
It had to happen...you don't get this sort of thing with Rugby supporters. Still it could have been worse. Poor sod, could have been named after the whole team. There just isn't the room on application forms, where it says enter full name. |
