Nori Bricks

In the library this morning I was asked about the myth that NORI was a misspelling of IRON.

When I left school at 14, I serve my apprenticeship as a Pattern Maker at Lang Bridges. We had to put names and numbers on the patterns, it would be impossible to spell either NORI or IRON wrong, the names and numbers were mostly made of lead and came in boxes and were glued or nailed to the pattern, sometimes on a separate block so the moulder could stamp them in the mould before the metal was poured.

If you don't believe just print IRON or NORI on a piece of paper and hold it to a mirror, the R is the wrong way round.

Re: Nori Bricks

If you look at an old brick, it has the word NORI Accrington in the frog,
the name was put there by a Pattern Maker when they made the patterns for the original cast iron moulds that impressed the bricks.

No it was spelt the right way, if it had been wrong, they would have had old Freer up the chimney double quick, to put it right.

Well I've always been led to believe that Nori Bricks was named after the chap who started the company, a gentleman by the name of Mr IRON. I was told that by an old Bricky who I worked with many moons ago

i use to work at the site when it was marshalls and it was said that the owner told the painter that he wanted IRON painted up the chimney, the painter took it literally and and that is where it all originated from
