I qualify for nothing at all, except a 25% reduction in council tax now I live on my own, but the cost of living is going up the same for me as it is for everyone else.

This is what I meant, it was people like you who I was referring to.

I can understand how annoying things like this must be for you.

another attempt to buy the poor persons vote ,what shoudl happen is that the government should drag the likes of british gas over the coals and if needed force them to reduce fuel costs because i am %100 sure british gas's only excuse and only genuine excuse for continualy raising fuel prices is that the fat cats at the top want more money

oil prices may well have gone up but briish gas especialy has been hiking the prices up for years when not needed and could easily afford to absorb some of the rise in fuel costs but that would mean making a few less millions each day so thay wont

I'm not really complaining in my case, as I earn a decent wage and I'm not exactly struggling to get by. However, there are loads of people out there who are finding the increasing cost of living hard to cope with, but don't qualify for any kind of help.

I wouldn't mind some kind of payback, however, as I pay loads out in income tax every month! :( ;)

Thanks BB and BT for the karma. :)

I was talking about people like Tin Monkey who don't get child benefit or any other help.

There's a group of people who are not yet pensioners so don't get any of the allowances that pensioners get but who don't have young / any children so don't get allowances there either....in fact they get sod all so I can understand their frustrations over things like this.

Don't expect payback on pensions or NI......The Government spend that as they go along, and on people who dont contribute.

But that's the way it's always worked. When it comes time for me to draw my pension, will there be any pot for me to dip in to? (And I know the answer to that already).

That’s what should be happening. Sadly our Government has no balls. The French have done it and we may end up subsidising them.

Britons face bigger bills as French Government caps energy prices

What allowances ? Should be getting a tax personal allowance before tax of £9030 (at 65)... they now telling me has dropped to £4954 !! (taxed now @ 20% over this amount .. thanks Gordon) am totally confused, as this tax debt was supposedly being collected by my last employer last year.. still on a bloody K code .. will have to ring them tomorrow as now making life difficult for me .. will have to go back to some work. Know they will be correct, but just do not get it !!

Get the Council Tax 25% .. as other people living alone, and the fuel allowance/bus pass .. that is it !

Sorry to sound off ... just every time I sort things out, summat else comes along.
