Can i just ask why do you want to stop a doctor finding out your medical history especially if its in an emergency ... eg you collapse while in town doing your shopping .. that way they will have some way of finding out whats wrong with you. Also picking up a prescription .. if the pharmacy is any good they will be able to tell you if it will interact with any medication you are taking ...

Not being on the database doesn't mean your own doc can't access your medical records (which he holds) - nor does it mean that he won't be able to supply that info to a hospital doc if the situation requires him to

Sorry margaret but i read it ..... and im quite happy for people to know my medical records .. simple reason as was proved on friday in my case ..... the ambulance man asked dave if i had diabetes .. and because ive been open about me having epilepsy .. that dave said i know that she has epilepsy ... and also gave the ambulance man my name ... he also asked dave if he could spell it ..

Your doctor is not in casualty is he if you get took to there as an emergency .. Plus what happens if you dont have a broken leg .. you are being treated by your doctor for a stroke .. and if you have a heart attack down town .. what happens then ...

In such an emergency I would hope that they wouldn't waste time typing on a keyboard to access a system which might be 'down' - what then? wait for reconnection?:rolleyes:

Persons in your situation carry a bracelet with important health info, don't they?

PS as for a chemist needing to know - if you haven't found out the properties of any drug before you take it- you are gambling with your life

Can't understand why anybody would not want their medical details on a database, they are only going to be accessed if someone wants to save you!

And about the first post, what the heck has it got to do with anyone if my parents have paid tax or NI? Or even if I was in receipt of vouchers for free clothes?(whatever they are, clothes that is, not vouchers, I'm a naturist as you all know).
Isn't everyones individual situation down to themselves?

Yes i do have a SOS talisman round my neck .. but no ambulance man/woman have ever opened it .. and how many people have one but dont keep it up to date with medication details .. That typing in a keyboard could save your life ...

How can you be sure of that? - we are aware that databases are misused by snoopy employees regularly.

If your next door neighbour's teenage daughter starts work at Boots, would you prefer her to know, or not to know, some medical facts - eg whether you have one or two testicles or have had both removed, or whether you have had a spell of depression.

If I was medically considered as 'paranoid' then maybe I would be worried. But I'm not, so I'm not! I don't care who knows what's wrong with me, I even tell the truth to my life insurance company. As far as I'm concerned the medical people can record my entire life, if that will help to cure me from something in the future.

If you were a transvestite trying to make a new life with a new gender you really don't want to have to meet your neighbour in the street and have them give you that look which says 'I know'.

Confidentiality breaches happen more often than are reported and disciplined,
and with so many people being in a position to know, who do you discipline?

Most people with medical conditions always tell friends, relations, etc., no matter how intimate, and eventually spreads out to the whole of a neighbourhood ... so our own worst enemy really. Look at your goodself, we already know a great deal of the health of your body.

Go in any doctor's surgery, they meet someone they know, and within a few minutes are telling each other why they are there. People love to talk about their illnesses. The records are there already, on the grapevine.

They might well illicit strange looks from their neighbours, as transvestites have no desire to change gender. That's transexuals, who sometimes take that option.

If I pulled unconscious from the wreckage of my car, I'll be more than happy for whichever medic attends to my injuries, has ease of access to my full medical history.
