Screening/bowel cancer

Don't want to put up another 'non fun' thread, but has anyone had this yet ? Friend I was chatting to tonight on 'phone (lives Garstang), mentioned it, had a laugh at what she and hubby had to do to obtain sample.. hadn't heard of it before.

A good thing to do.
Couldn't help but notice that Lancashire has been placed last to participate

Didn't read it all Margaret, so do you think we will be expecting our little orange sticks and plastic bottles soon then ?

Not knocking it at all, just never heard about it before.

Even though I am eating rice cakes with peanut butter, you had to get me to look again didn't you:eek:
You will stick the little stick in your poo and post it off.
If they find traces of blood you will get a coloscopy (camera up the back way)

Now can I get back to my peanut butter?:D

I didn't know about this either. It's 30 years away for me but my parents are 60 next year so I suppose they'll be getting called for this screening.

I don't think they're aware of it either....I shall tell them. They like to have something to look forward to.:D

Re: Screening/bowel cancer

I had the tests done a few months ago, I was asked to partake and I assume it's going by name, age, post code etc. It was a case of a card with windows for samples, wooden spatulas and 6 samples to be sent off.

Inevitably it led to hilarious uproar in our house. I told Laura (aged 8) what it was all about and she mused about sending the samples back in the same post as a birthday card. What if you got the envelopes mixed up and the lab got a birthday card and your relative/friend/whatever got a card with 6 samples of poo? Laura chortled 'til tears ran down her cheeks and, I must say, I laughed a lot, too. :D

Anyway, I got the results back within a week to say I was clear. :)

Yes, that's a thought.....just think, someone's got to open all these samples.

I'm glad I don't work in the post room where these things are received.

There's always someone with a worse job than yours, isn't there? :D
