but its on the news

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of committing terror offences, police say.
Two of the men were held at Manchester Airport, while the third was detained in nearby Accrington.

The arrests were a joint operation between Lancashire Police and Greater Manchester Counter Terrorism Unit.

The Accy arrest was actually in Church; has anybody got any idea exactly where? I see also that the cops are saying the offences against which they are holding them are "at the least serious end of the scale". Does anyone know what is meant by that?

Any terrorist involvment is serious in my opinion.............

Tealeaf 15-08-2008 15:11

Re: arest in accrington and mancheseter airport

It could be they were planning to blow up Accy, which is far more serious than planning to blow up Ossy.

Re: arest in accrington and mancheseter airport

So what were they teaching?
This might give us an inkling what they were teaching
Terrorism Act 2006 | Home Office
# Encouragement to Terrorism
This makes it a criminal offence to directly or indirectly incite or encourage others to commit acts of terrorism. This will include the glorification of terrorism, where this may be understood as encouraging the emulation of terrorism.

I suppose an 'I love Osama' on a tshirt could be 'glorification'.
if you were twisted enough to wear one

edit.... found this Blackburn terror suspects 'are teachers' (From Lancashire Telegraph)

I think they are more like Sunday School teachers (well the equivalent) rather than professional teachers. I think the use of the word teachers was the Telegraph trying to bring some sensationalism to the story

Thats very scary, to say the least, you may have noticed I'm a fan of either, but this is sick. Well at least we know why they were arrested fore and shows evrybody that you never know where these terrorist live, these are a bit too close for comfort

I hope David Davis & Co. are counting how many days they are being held without charge for.

I wonder if certain people are already making banners to 'Free the Blackburn Four'?

they should throw an extra charge of treason on top as well just to get a few more years in prison

pity you cant hang them

Re: arest in accrington and mancheseter airport

that was the point of my question accyman, if the uncovered plot had been 3 white, british christian men, i doubt very much the " Media" Police, would call it terrorism, treason or attempted murder possibly.

Re: arest in accrington and mancheseter airport

what I found a bit odd about the original story was that the guys arrested at the airport were supposedly on their way to Iceland , wouldn't have thought it held much attraction for Islamic fundamentalists , Sven and Thor are not really the kind of names one associates with terrorism, more with chunky pullovers and cod , must be bit of a ****** when Ramadan falls during the summer and the sun never sets

I think it was Finland steeljack not Iceland, It also seems that this 4th guy who has been arrested is a white muslim convert, according to a muslim councillor in Blackburn, but he says he has never seen him in local mosques

Formal charges have now been laid and these three will be in court tomorrow. It will be interesting to see what the press has to report from Horseferry Road tomorrow.
