man finally has electricity installed
The chap sounds a bit of an oddball , but what surprises me is that he is still able to buy the old gas mantles
Homeowner finally installs electricity at his remote country cottage - Telegraph   |
Re: man finally has electricity installed
think oddball is not the word i would say DIPSTICK.:D
|
Re: man finally has electricity installed
lol just wait until he gets his first electricty bill and all the sales reps asking him to switch providers , he will soon be back on the gas system

Anyway a Hoover salesman called at their house to demonstrate the latest model. He tipped a bag of dust on the floor and was most suprised when he was handed a brush and shovel and told to ****** off because they had no Electric.:D:D |
Re: man finally has electricity installed
Benipete OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH the olds are good uns lol
|
Re: man finally has electricity installed
still no running water either.... must be strange but I guess its only what you are used to.
However some bits don't add up, he is a tour guide at a hotel so surely was 'used' to electric lighting yet they quote him as turing lights on and off for fun. |
Re: man finally has electricity installed
He obviously realised that The X Factor was starting again!

Thats a big enough reason to go back to a cave and camp fire never mind gas! :D

Re: man finally has electricity installed
Some people prefer to live a simple life.
When I was doing the 1970 census I found a hermit living in a farm building with no mains supplies whatsoever....... but that was in Dingleland:D |
Re: man finally has electricity installed
I was shocked at this story, to find someone currently living like this....
(underlined for the less mentally agile, you know who they are) |

Suppose is a matter of 'if you have never had before, you never miss it', however, he has appeared to have succumbed and delighted with it all. Bet that house (made of mud and straw !!! ?? ) would have been a bit creepy though. |
Re: man finally has electricity installed
Okay then!
Weird imo,the novelty will soon wear off, wonder how long he will keep himself amused flicking the lights on and off! I can just picture him now,its a bit sad really when you think about it,must be a lonley sheltered life without telly or radio or company etc... |
Re: man finally has electricity installed
probably till he blows the fuses and has no idea what to do lol
|
Re: man finally has electricity installed
Some people find living without amenities a natural stress free way to live.
City dwellers have been known to move to remote Scottish crofts and extol the virtues of it. I suppose I would quite enjoy it if it I was extremely healthy and fit. The remoteness of medical facilities puts me off that way of life. |

He will probably be happy to go back to his gaslamp thingy! Sorry i'm half asleep been up since 4.30am and not long finished work! |

He has so few mod con appliances that a circuit overload is extremely unlikely. |
Re: man finally has electricity installed
how the hell did he mange to ring the fire brigade aswell with no lecy? surely by the time he got back from the phone there wouldn't have been a house to go back too.
|
Re: man finally has electricity installed
Good point Nori, never thought of that!
Maybe a neighbour or passer by spotted it and phoned the fire brigade for him? |

Again good point Margeret!!
Not thinking straight atm i'm afraid! Need sleep but am not tired! |
Re: man finally has electricity installed
yeah but how did he manage to phone the fire brigade? if he didn't have any lecy an he didn't have any modcons till he shelled out for his lecy by the time he got back from the phone the house would just be a wall of fire.

An old style non radio type phone works without leccy PS I keep one in the cupboard to phone the power supplier when the leccy has gone off |

Re: man finally has electricity installed
I always thought that phones needed to be conected to some type of electricty, I'm not being ignorrent.

Think about it - phones were in use in the days before most homes had electricity |
Re: man finally has electricity installed
Perhaps he did have a mobile Margaret, and used the hotel's sockets to shove his charger in ?
Like Entwisi says, not exactly cut of from electric items. |
Re: man finally has electricity installed
To be fair when we have a power cut the phone still works so maybe that was it?
