the swines - maybe its about time we all gave them a bag full like they are asking - I am not sure what we could put in it but I am sure it wont be clothes - compost and old fishheads comes to mind lol

A lot of people prefer to Freecycle them instead, at least they have a better chance of benefiting someone local then.

I'll tell my mum in law to watch out for this scam.

I got 3 of them bags through on the same day - different charities. All collecting on the same day. All went in the bin.

I used to put my old clothes in them, but round here the scroats on the street would just take them - they've even been known to go through the bins and take toys out :eek:

Nowadays they go to Hyndburn Stray Dogs in town. I ring up every couple of months and they take everything, clothes toys etc.

When I get my car (on Friday!!) I'll be able to drive down myself and donate them :D

weve never had air ambulance bags round here, but a few weeks ago the crew from air ambulance were on our street canvassing for monthly subscriptions to a £1000 lottery scheme,,,,they were definitely legit and i joined because i know they really do rely on donated money...soon after we got an official acknowledgement from the official offices.....

We often get a bag asking for clothes 'or a small donation' to send a child in the Gambia to school. They also send bumf stating that you could sponsor a childs education in the Gambia for £25 a week.
We go there every year and sponsor a child, this costs £25 - £50 PER YEAR!! The clothes that are donated are not given to the people of these countries, they are sold to shops, who then sell them on.
We take clothes and so on for people we know, I buy up lots of stuff in the Asda sale, and try to fill a suitcase which we pass on to friends for their children and also to the Headmaster of the school, who gives clothes/shoes as prizes at end of term, to encourage parents to keep sending their kids to school, as many will keep them off and send them to work.

just recieved a leaflet (no bag) from a company called SHC Collections, they arnt on the charities comission and same as micks link nothing is used to describe the company. Also the e-mail address is @hotmail.com - a dead giveaway.

i got 4 of those leaflets in 4 days last week, do they really think we are THAT thick? i've never seen any bags left out for any of them around here, bloody muppets

The thought of these collection being a con hadn’t really entered my head until I read this thread. I always bin the leaflets without reading the info printed.

They obviously haven’t seen my wardrobe. In fact, I could do with them dropping some gear off. :D

Save The Mothers Trust is now doing the rounds, they claim to have projects in South Africa & Asia.

They also claim to be working with the Council but have forgotten to state which one!
