No punishment for stealing £7,000?
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, can't find anything about it, but I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on the sentence handed out to the guy who stole £7,000 from the Pop club. A suspended sentence and not required to pay the money back because he doesn't have any money? Isn't this virtually saying you can steal £7,000, have the benefit of spending it, and not be punished? Why couldn't he have been made to do something to recompense the club in some way?

Re: No punishment for stealing £7,000?
I agree it is scandalous, it just sends out the message that you can steal and get away with it. He had a position of trust and abused it and must have known there was no way he could pay the money back!!!

Re: No punishment for stealing £7,000?
The law is a humungus ass and the crass stupidity of the judge makes its worse. What ever happened to do the crime do the time? The club cannot afford this and even if the insurance by chance covered it what did they do until it was sorted? This crim should be banged up and forced to find the money as well as compensation and costs incurred by the club!!!

Re: No punishment for stealing £7,000?
I mentioned it in relation to the ex-Stanley player who was jailed for attempted blackmail.
http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/f...led-42364.html There really is no deterrent to stealing, if this is supposed to be the justice. |

The law's an ass. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Re: No punishment for stealing £7,000?
This is sending out the message that crime does pay.
He should have been made to pay the money back over a period of time. :( |

Agreed!! So they couldn't take a nominal amount from his benefits, which I presume he is on? They have done this in other cases, for smaller amounts, why not this one? It may not go a long way in paying off what he owed them, but it would be something. And why not some sort of community service??? Why not send the bailiffs in for a start?....Oh I forgot, that's only if you get behind with council tax when you are really struggling and trying to pay your way as a law abiding citizen.... |
