Would You Go Abroad With An Alcoholic

A functioning one who manages to hold down a job,but is prone to mood swings, tantrums, don't give a frig attitude.Would you be able to relax on holiday?Wonder if your going to get through passport control.Liability or better off not going at all.If you had no option but to take them would you rather stay at home & put up with the incessant rain & forgo the week in the sun or chance it?

I would forgo any holiday if I thought there was going to be hassle and I like a drink myself but couldn't cope with worrying about them kicking off:)

Re: Would You Go Abroad With An Alcoholic

Stay at home with your “functioning” alcoholic. Your holiday will be spoiled, you wont be able to relax and you will save some cash that you will need when the alcoholic becomes “dysfunctional” ( dependant on how close the alcoholic is to you )

No I wouldn't. Not on my own anyway. I wouldn't be able to enjoy the holiday for fear of what may occur.

go to saudi arabia , i still think they do public floggings for anyone caught drunk in the street

that will sober them up pretty sharpish :D

The thought of going on a holiday on my own does not hold any appeal to me, as where ever you go, it's the people you are with (or meet whilst you are there) that help to make a holiday memorable.

However, even visits to the most spectacular places can be spoiled if you are in the wrong company:(

Depending on the person's age, you could go on an 18-30's holiday.

They wouldn't stand out at all.

:D

Re: Would You Go Abroad With An Alcoholic

Better have a good lawyer and plenty of money because getting lifted abroad for "misdeeds" when drunk makes this countries attitude look "pansy arsed" and niave. Never mind the 18-30 lot it would be the under 18's that would be the worst. I dont know if that is true of the "under agers" down here but up my way they are a serious problem that with full compliance of the law has parents not in the know and out of the loop until they end up in court, but that is a different story.

Re: Would You Go Abroad With An Alcoholic

Unfortunately only you can decide.
How likely is said alcoholic likely to overindulge?
Can you cope with their behaviour?
Could you walk away if alcoholic was a pain - harder to do in a foreign country?
Do you want to spend good money on a holiday that someone else may ruing, which brings us back to the first question

I would say if you put up with it at home, take a chance abroad and do the same.Better still lesson your ties with the alcoholic

Most real alcoholics hide it from the rest of the world, the people I think you are talking about are probably binge drinkers that once they have had too much, (but can never realise it), make an absolute exhibition of themselves and all around them.

I would willingly rather go on holiday with an alcoholic rather than a person that turns to a stranger and ask's in a threatening manner, "Who you looking at?", they , are dangerous!
:(

If she was wildly beautiful, a nymphomaniac, rich and owned a bar out there, then yes.

Re: Would You Go Abroad With An Alcoholic

With the hassel associated with going abroad i.e. the airline check in, lining up at passport control, outward and coming back, in addition to bags inspection you would probably be better off staying at home and both getting drunk. The alternative is
to go to Spain. leave the alcoholic in the hotel bar and then collect him when you arrive back after your night out.
