Never bothered with the new licence that has the photo on it, still using the original I got in ‘85.
Just had a look and that expires the day before my 70th birthday in 2031. |
Re: Driving Licences don't last until your are 70
When I first read this I was miffed at the thought of having to fork out £17.50 to renew my license every 10 years.
However, when you think about it it makes sense, doesn't it? They are photocards so, like passports, what would be the point of a card belonging to a 60 year old with a photo of a 20 year old on it? |

I have my original car licence , which runs out in 2032 , but i am still using a plastic card
since they sent me a letter . |
Re: Driving Licences don't last until your are 70
Mine is one of those old green things.......I haven't checked when it expires....probably in 9 years...that is when I reach 70.

Re: Driving Licences don't last until your are 70
It’s just another Stealth Tax we didn’t see coming as it says in the link. If you have to have the Photocard version then fine, change it every 10 years so that the photo is up to date but the DVLA or Treasury should pick up the tab. The cash they get from selling Private/personalised number plates alone would cover the cost

You don't need to take the test again when it runs out do you?

Though they renewed it last November for another three years, without making me drive around Wigan, and press a load of buttons and pedals when they lit up, like they did three years before that. |
Re: Driving Licences don't last until your are 70
Miner expired on my 70th birthday and it didn’t cost me anything to renew it 18 months ago.
