GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
We allowed them to fight, long and hard for our country. We allowed them to die for our country. We bestowed upon them the highest of military honours. 9000 of them died... 23,655 severely injured...2734 decorated.
now we are not allowing some of them tolive in our country. England has failed miserably to match theGurkhas loyalty and affection for the British. We give a knighthood to Salmon Rushtie for publishing a book which led to us having to pay for his personnal protection for life. We have our friend "THE HOOK". who we keep in th e lap of luxury for years and provide a luxury home for his family. we have got it wrong... or some of our so called leaders have. But what can you expect when the leader of one of our political parties thinks that OAPs live on "£30.00 " a week pension. THe other is a cycle ridind Scott who has his Jaguar following him to work (at our expence) and the other well words fail me about the other clown............... |
Re: GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
we let everyone else into this country, even people who have never ever done anything to help anyone, turf some of the others out and let the Gurkhas in

Re: GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
Agree entirely.
Have been reading a lot abut the gurkhas plight recently and think its a disgrace that they aren't allowed help from this country or to live here. This country has got things sadly wrong over this matter and many other things recently. Couldn't believe it yeterday when i heard Nick Clegg leader of the LibDems stating that he thought pensions were 30 pounds a week!! How out of touch are these guys? And they wonder why we have no faith in them to lead our country!! |

The Ghurkhas won 13 VC’s. It is beyond scandalous the way that we are treating our staunchest allies. Idi Amin in 1972 expelled tens of thousands of Asian from India - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expulsion_of_Asians_in_Uganda_in_1972 - and the majority were allowed to settle in the UK. I think that the Ghurkhas have a better claim to residence over here than they ever had. Let all the Ghurkhas who want to stay in the UK and their families do so without hindrance. Whilst stationed at Kranji Wireless in Singapore in 1955 I took some R & R in Kuala Lumpur in Malaya during the time that the terrorists were attacking the white rubber plantations. Riding shotgun on the train were the Ghurkhas as well as British troops because it was not unknown for trains to be attacked. Ours wasn’t either going or coming but I found them to be friendly, kind and sociable with one eye constantly on the jungle. In other words I felt safe. |

We should reward their loyalty with the gift of British citizenship if they want it.
We have done them a grave injustice, and it should be rectified forthwith. |
Re: GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
The more I think about this, the angrier I get. Foreign criminals are allowed to remain here because of their human rights...we not only don't deport terrorist suspects, we actually pay them benefits...yet these brave men who have put their lives on the line for this country have to beg to be allowed to stay.
Every member of this government should hang their heads in shame. They are not fit to lace a Gurkhas' boots. |
Re: GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
Although, don't remember what they did for us exactly, everyone has a deep fondness and admiration for these people.
Why is it that all the population, except certain members of the Government, are in disagreement with this. Sure if you went down town today and did a survey, everyone would wish to welcome them with open arms ... Without googling, etc., on what grounds are we refusing them entry ? |

Re: GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
Just discovered that Nick Clegg, the LibDem's head honcho met with the Gurkha leaders at their demo outside Parliament yesterday and raised their case in the House later. Don't think much of the fella (or his grasp of OAP's pensions!), but fair play to him for doing that.

Whilst looking at my petition I noticed this one
Petition to: give all Ex Gurkha soldiers and their families who have served our country British citizenship on leaving the service. | Number10.gov.uk |
Re: GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
I have signed this petition and would ask all other Accyweb members who feel strongly about the plight of these deserving men, to do the same.

Re: GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
I had the pleasure of becoming very friendly with a captain in the Gurkhas in the mid seventies, we were both staing in the same hotel for about three months in Carlise, he was on a lagistics course at the maintenance unit, one of the bigest military store in the country. He was a first class soldier and a true gentleman who asked for nothing but would give you his last penny. What is happening to these people, who have given so much for this country, is boardering on the criminal especially with the way we let any Tom Dick and Harry come here and take us for a ride, I've signed

Re: GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
A life-long family friend of my parents spent 5 years in Burma, fighting the Japanese, during the war. He didn't ever say much about his experiences but he did tell us about the Gurkhas he had fought alongside. He had a great deal of admiration for them and said how brave they were and how very glad he was that they were on our side.
Those old men are the ones who fought along side our soldiers. You see them in the papers and on TV, so proud and standing to attention. They don't bleat and whine, they don't make demands and scream about Human Rights, all they ask is for justice. This country owes them a debt and I, as an Englishwoman, feel ashamed that, up to now, it is not being repaid. |

Re: GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
I've signed it too Margaret ... although was badly worded ... said 'when they retire from service', but as Jambutty pointed out is aimed at the soldiers who retired before 1997.
Just listened to the Tuesday interview on the Jeremy Vine show with Joanna Lumley and a Gurkha who had served us for 24 years, and now in danger of being deported ! He retired in 1993. She was protesting outside the Court that were ruling on his case ... her father had served with them. Was nearly in tears with his plight ... their motto is 'Better to die, than be a coward'. Tried to understand the ****** .. Sir Alexander(?) Green's point of view looking at our Immigration policies globally, and the need to restrict it. Well, we all have expressed our opinions on this, haven't we ?!? These are special people .. end of ... Something to do with an agreement made many years ago that they should return to Nepal after service ... well, break it ! |
Re: GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
Petition signed. Let's hope the government actually act upon it.

Re: GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
Signed and proud to do so:)

Re: GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
OK , Someone please tell me how these guys are different from any other Mercenaries including the French Foreign Legion (Paid guns for hire) they are foreign nationals hired by another Govt. to do its dirty work , granted they have done sterling work in the name of the Crown , But it was for a foreign Crown , Not the Nepalese Crown .
How are these any different than the British lads who served in the Rhodesian and South African forces and were threatened by H.M.s Govt that they would be put on trial when/if they returned to the UK . Seem to remember about 20 of them being thrown into an Angolan jail for periods of up to 30 years for fighting against the communists, one of whom was executed by firing squad , and the British Govt. not doing a damn thing for them . |
Re: GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
i think i've posted on here about the gurkhas before regarding them not getting british status despite all they do
i think its a disgrace - its a national disgrace. they live and breathe to protect this country. they're quite possibly one of the most disciplined battalions in the world. just to get selected they prepare for this all their life. and there's people out there who've never ever as much as seen the uk as their own country and get full priviledges |
Re: GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
This does apply to the Gurkhas who retired ealy, but we must not forget that most of the 24.000 seriously injured will probably fall into this class, is this the thanks we give them for giving their lives or their health to defend our shores.
I signed Margerat. Its the least any Englishman can do. |
Re: GURKHAS.. We owe them.....
Sorry about spelling Margaret.... Ian.

These soldiers of the crown are and have been in the British Army for many years...........They have served under British Officers and NCO's in their own Regiments and as support troops. They fought alongside the American Forces in many theatres of war and I am sure that anyone who had experience of serving with them would be of the same opinion as me. They swear allegance to the Queen and are proud of it. I have never known a Ghurka claim benefits that has not been earned. Why oh why oh do our country cousins criticise the UK and I'ts allies of long standing when they have'nt a bloody clue what they are talking about. |
