IF there was a God...

....what is the one question you would ask him/her?

We've talked about God a lot and our views on religion but putting them aside, what would you like to ask?

That's an excellent one because it's the reason many people give for not believing in God.

One day I think I'll ask how come I was born when and where I was born - but maybe by then I'll understand why anyway. It's sort of an extension on the theme of why other people were born when and where they were (and consequently endured the things they have.)

Why me?.....

I do actually ask him that quite often.

With some of the stress i have i often think i must have been really bad in a past life....although i know im not alone in thinking this.

Gayle, I am listening, just because I don't answer very often, doesn't mean I'm ignoring you!

Perhaps if you were to sacrifice your first born?.....

As Willow says, this is the question a lot of people would ask.

I heard someone ask a vicar this question once and the answer was that all these things are man made.

God made the world and mankind and can't be held responsible for wars. We bring these on ourselves. I understand that some illnesses are man made too but others are not. People can't help getting illnesses like cancer....that's the part I don't understand.

Please explain which illnesses are man made? I thought the Bible say God made everything on earth. Does that not include bacteria and viruses? Come to think of it He made a pretty poor job when He made humans. Maybe we were a Monday morning race ;)

I will ask you a question then Lilly, are Vicars good people?

Don't blame me re the vicar's answer.....I'm only repeating what one vicar told my friend when she asked the question.

Maybe man made was the wrong term to use re illnesses....maybe self inflicted would be more like it. Some illnesses are self inflicted. George Best had a self inflicted illness.

As for the last bit.....are vicars good people?

I don't know what to say to that.....I suppose you can't generalise, can you?

You can't say all vicars are good just like you can't say that all estate agents are dishonest and all male hairdressers are gay....we have an image of people who do certain jobs that we like them to fit.

I've known some lovely vicars but sadly I know there are some who aren't so lovely. You'll get that in any job though.

Much obliged for clarifying the pedantic finer points. No mention of insects though, which are VITAL in pollinating plants and cleaning up carcases.

According to the Biblical literalists the Ark had a total floor space of some 100,000 square feet. Large animals like elephants, rhinos etc would need some 400 sq ft each and at least ten times that for their feed. That would be about 28,000 sq ft for 7 elephants alone.

Then there were the carnivores to cater for, not forgetting drinking water for all.

Even if it were ‘kinds’ of animals, like felines, bovines, equines etc, as some theological historians claim where did the various species come from after the flood?

Which were the unclean animals, apart from man and woman?

This whole God, Adam and Eve and Noah thing is just a story concocted by some very clever people to grab power for themselves. And of course these events were only written about well after the event.

Indeed the last part of your post is probably accurate. The medieval church, at least from the time of Pope Gelasius, used the ark thing as part of their argument that the Apostolic See had both religious and temporal power. The ark story was interpreted as a metaphor for the inclusiveness of the church. The ark argument is used as late as 1302, I think, in Pope Boniface Vlll's Bull, Unam Sanctam, which was part of the propaganda war between Boniface and Phillip lV.

I've always wondered why so many people that struggle to exist can afford to spend so much money on a building to high lite a person that is a figment of so many imaginations.
Yes I believe there is a creator but I don't subscribe to the idea that he needs my money.
