Support Our Soldiers xmas appeal 2008

Well im here again guys.
This week our SOS XMAS APPEAL has gone live.
If you can help in anyway please pm Myself or Onlyme for details.

Mick and Anne (although I think anne will be the last to know.lol) sorry Anne:Dhave once again kindly agreed to be a drop off point for any donations.

As your probably aware so many of our lads and lasses in our armed forces will be away from home and loved ones this xmas, also there are the few that dont even have family back home, so to recieve a parcel from people that dont know them gives them a moral boost and lets them all know we do support them and we are thinking of them.

you can help in many ways. either by making a monetry donation to www.supportoursoldiers.co.uk or by helping with parcel fillers.

Suggested parcel fillers

santa hat, selection box, sweets,
xmas cake, xmas pudding, sauce satchet,
nuts, raisins, crisps/snacks,
lollipops, biscuits, drinks satchet,
jam/marmalade,chewing gum,
toiletry items, socks/undies,
puzzle books, notepad and pen,
balloon and small gift.

All items must be able to fit into a standard shoe box, travel or mini sizes are ideal.

Prohibited items

Aerosols, alcohol, xmas crackers,
party poppers, lighter/lighter fuel,
matches, pornographic(even slightly)books or magazines.

The parcels mean much more than a box filled with seasonal goodies-They represent the support and good wishes of the british public and show our brave soldiers that we are thinking of them.

By supporting this appeal does not mean that you are necessarily supporting either war. we are a non political charity whose sole aim is to SUPPORT OUR SOLDIERS.

Thankyou for taking time to read this post and I look foward to your support.:)

Re: Support Our Soldiers xmas appeal 2008

You can give me one Hun……….Theirs only me in my office but there’s an accountants upstairs so I’ll stick one in the entrance area and see what happens.

Really pleased to see this come around again, I thought we could put half a dozen good boxes together this year from Preferred Care Ltd. I know how much a good box of goodies goes down at Christmas. I’ll give you a knock when there done Mal……

Q: Can we choose to between male and female personnel; and can we enclose a Christmas card.

On a personal note; I’d like to see a much higher profile of our service people this year, we seem to be forgetting that their out there fighting, it doesn’t matter if you anyone agrees or disagrees with the war or the politics of it, these are our people facing harsh conditions and personal danger, we have lost one member of our extended family out there and there’s the potential threat for others who are serving, it’s ok remembering them each November, but it would be far better if we didn’t forget them while they are here fighting, nor should we forget those training, their trainers and the vast array of support teams serving at home and abroad.

Will see if youngest members and Adult members will try to set up some boxes as well as work mates. :alright:

Re: Support Our Soldiers xmas appeal 2008

Doug Its entirely upto you what sex you donate to hun. I have had as many donations for female soldiers as I have for male. It is all appreciated.
Yes you can send a xmas card , once again you choose wether its to a male or female. I make both male and female boxes up and get replies from both too.

I agree doug its so important to keep our lads and lasses at the forefront of peoples minds, its so easy to forget them with the (out of sight out of mind syndrome)
They work very very hard and really are doing a dangerous job out there.

Iam trying to raise a bit more awareness this year so watch this space, also feel free to do your own bit too Im here should you need any help or advice. you can also email me at [email protected]

This sounds like a g reat idea guys; I'm glad to see that support for your troops is strong. We can drop gifts off at CFB/BFC Kingston and the stuff will be flown by military transport from Trenton to Kandahar. And I'm sure we all hope that all our young men and women will soon be safe home and out of harm's way.

Onlyme can collect or failing that Mick has kindly agreed to be a local collection point.

Our xmas appeal is now well and truly underway and I am delighted to say that my dining room is now being overtaken with parcel fillers, xmas hats and other goodies for our brave lads and lasses,

The public support for our troops this year is really overwhelming and it makes me really proud to be a part of it.
If anyone wants anymore info just let me know or pm Onlyme thanks

Re: Support Our Soldiers xmas appeal 2008

Hello Mel,

Sorry hun, I was distracted by the MOD’s earlier request in respect of relieving pressure on the postal system and in that respect I’ve not done any boxes has I had planned, although I am now aware that the MOD give the SOS the go ahead and give total backing to this fantastic effort.

I have however made donations to the same amount to the Help for Hero’s and Royal British legion campaigns. I will also get something off the Karen over the web as I did last year.

This is fantastic work….keep it up.

cherokee 13-11-2008 12:34

Re: Support Our Soldiers xmas appeal 2008

Doug thank you for your donation , I understand with the MOD thing as its been quite an issue this year but like you said ithas been made clear that we have been allocated the amount to ensure we dont overwhelm the system and it is wourking well upto now.

I have myself also donated to the help for heroes campaign as like ours it is a very worthy cause

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of Support Our Soldiers, Nic(Onlyme) and myself to say a big thankyou to all you kind people of Accrington who have made this years xmas parcel appeal a very successful one.
Between Nic and myself we have reached our given target and managed to get 200 parcels out to the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. This couldnt have been done without your help and contributions,

I would personally like to thank Mick and Anne for allowing their home to become a drop off point and also Emzy for giving her precious child free time up to help with the pack and wrap.

Our parcel appeal is ongoing throughout the year and we are always here to offer a shoulder to worried families back home who would just like to talk.

If you would like to continue helping our appeal either by donating for our parcels or even fundraising in your own way, please feel free to email me at [email protected] or send me a pm on here. alternatively you can also contact Onlyme.... [email protected]

Once again thankyou and I look foward to your valued support in the future.
May I wish you all a very merry xmas and a very happy new year.
