Paul Newman

I just heard that Paul Newman died today, aged 83, after fighting cancer for some years.

Paul was married for 50 years to his 2nd wife, Joanne Woodward. He was one of my favourite actors, I particularly liked him as Butch Cassidy, a very handsome man (much handsomer than Redford :D) and - oh - those blue eyes! ;)

I am saddened to read of his death.
Rest in Peace Paul.

I too am saddened to hear of his death but he had struggled for quite a while against the awful disease. Oh and yes those gorgeous eyes! I don't think I've ever seen anyone with eyes quite that blue unless they were wearing coloured contact lenses.

My favourite story regarding Paul Newman. Young girls were always hanging around his gate, in the 50s and 60s, hoping to catch a glimpse of him. One day his wife, Joanne, confronted a group of about a dozen girls and was chatting to them about her husband. They said they thought Paul was just wonderful. Joanne gave them a "look" then said, "Yeah, he's fantastic - and did you know he snores like a pig?" :D

Re: Paul Newman

He'll always be Butch Cassidy to me. I love the scene where he rode the bike, doing tricks, while the soundtrack played "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head". That scene was only included in the film because Paul used to do his trick-cycling during breaks on the set and was really rather good at it, so the director decided to film it. You can see, from the expression on Paul's face, how much he was enjoying himself. :)

Perhaps we'll be treated to the TV screening of some of his films, in memory of him. I hope so because they were all good films and Paul is always worth watching.

A great actor, who kept his integrity, and who seemed very happy in his personal life.

Amazing in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, amongst many other fine films.

I liked Cool Hand Luke, when he ate all the eggs.
