Chain store TK Maxx has been accused of “promoting knife crime” after it emerged it was selling jackets with 2 1/2in blades attached to the inside pocket.

Notice it didn't take them long to take them of the shelves when they were rumbled

A quote from that news article

Quote:

Last year a TK Maxx shop assistant was stabbed to death 11 times at a store in Thurmaston, Leicestershire.
Does that mean that 11 shop assistants were stabbed to death or maybe a shop assistant was killed 11 times.

I do not see a problem with people carrying a knife. People have been using pocket knives for hundreds of years. I have one in my pocket all the time I am at work.

The problem is that some people stick them in other people. The problem is that when they are caught they are not punished enough to deter other people. Sticking a knife in someone should get you a minimum 10 years inside.

I thought these people had buyers who inspected the articles to be sold? If they had, they would surely have noticed, so i guess, the buyers dont exist anymore (cutbacks), are blind, or put the items on sale with full knowledge of the knives!

I agree with this to a point ( tried to give karma, apparently i have put out too much in the last 24 hrs ;)) but to be honest, what genuine need is there to have fashion items with knives?? Just asking for trouble. Especially for dozy birds such as myself, that would end up tripping up and skewering myself

There is none. I was just saying that knives themselves are not the problem, it is the owners of the knives.

My grandson carried a knife for 6 years. He was a Scout, from age 11 to 16, and he always had his scout knife with him when in uniform. I own at least 6 extremely sharp knives; they live in a wooden knife block in my kitchen. Neither Peter nor I are the bravado-displaying, life-threatening, dangerous-on-the-streets type. It's a bit different from selling a potentially lethal weapon, to God alone knows who, concealed in a coat.

maybe the next one will be the hoodies that cover the whole face and built in knives..stab and run jackets?

I did not say what they did was right - it was not it was stupid.

I was just commenting on the whole knife crime thing.

This country likes to ban everyone from something because of a tiny minority. In this case it is that tiny minority that should be punished and not our boy scouts.

And your "potentially lethal weapon" comment is getting a bit tabloid paper ish. Everything is a potentially lethal weapon even the coat itself without the knife.

Perhaps I put it a little clumsily but actually, Neil, I was agreeing with you. (Oh and I don't read "tabloids" ;)).

You must have long arms then. I have to open broadsheets out on a table to read them.

I can't believe they have not all gone tabloid like the "compact Times" - then again it is still broadsheet on a Sunday.

I like how they call it the "compact Times" so they can try and avoid the tabloid stigma :D

I like pocket knifes, they can have a lot of uses at times you least expect it.

People aren't going to buy a coat for £30+ just for the knife, when they can get a bigger and sharper one from home.

I bought a sharp scalpel whilst I was under eighteen from an art shop. Nobody questions why I wanted it, but in reality that little and extremely sharp 1inch blade could easily scar someone for life or I could have decided I wanted to kill myself with it. Nobody checked at all and I suspect that if you look innocent enough you can get all sorts of sharp weapons without having to prove your age at all, especially those that already look older than their age.

There is no smoke without fire and whilst someone is always going to look terrible for providing these things to youths, whether it is purposefully or accidentally, I still think it should be tackled via the young people themselves.
