Saucy calender creates uproar!!!

A saucy calender to raise funds for the north west air ambulance has caused uproar amongst officials. BBC NEWS | England | Nude calendar uproar

I dont think its all that bad (although cant comment for the months that are missing ) but hey if its for a good cause and IMO isnt that bad then why shouldnt people buy it.
I would buy it. and display it appropriately.

what do you think would you buy it?

Saw the item on Granada Reports at teatime. I saw nothing wrong with the pictures in the calendar.

The service should be funded as part of the NHS

A classic example of mean-spirited, humourless political correctness. The UNISON official is a thoroughly miserable individual of the type we see too much of these days. If I see a copy of it anywhere, I'll buy it on principle! :D

Re: Saucy calender creates uproar!!!

The thing which I find most offensive is that something as vital as the Air Ambulance has to rely on donations and fund raising to keep going.

No, personally I wouldn't buy the calendar but I have often supported the Air Ambulance in other ways and will continue to do so. I think asking people to boycott the calendar is silly because you can't censor other people and as long as what they have done isn't pornographic it's no worse than a Pirelli calendar or some such. However it's not the sort of thing I would expect to see on open display in an office for example.

What this kerfuffle has done though is draw attention to the fact that the Air Ambulance is in dire need of raising money to keep going and so I hope people will take note of that and find some way to donate even if they don't want the offending item.

Totally agree Wynonie if that UNISON official smiled her face would have cracked. Like what has been said before this service shouldn't realy on charity it should be properly funded, which would be easy, just get rid f a few managers would do the trick, if anyone finds a web site where we can buy it let us know

Re: Saucy calender creates uproar!!!

I personally think the ones with two people are unnecessary.

I always think these calenders should be one of two things:

  • Comical
  • Celebration of the body
Whilst the picture of the man and woman is meant to be comical, I think it is spoiled by the showing of her full naked breasts. I didn't expect to think this when I saw this thread, but I have been left surprised by my own feelings of it I guess.

The comical element in that picture is too sexual for me to have thought it suitable for my own purchase, but the others are great because they are just carrying on with their normal day to day tasks but it's like they just happened to forget their clothes that morning and haven't realised!

Ah well, it simply isn't what I would buy if I was looking for a charity calender but overall I guess it isn't THAT bad.

Re: Saucy calender creates uproar!!!

How many air ambulances could be funded if the Lotto 'good causes', money was used as people thought it would be used when the lottery first started?
Lots of charities would be funded not just Air Ambulance. But no, the money is used as a subsidy for things that at one time would have to have been funded by the Government, (substitute taxpayer for that if you wish to be accurate).

Good causes miss out as Olympics soaks up half a billion in Lotto funds - Telegraph

The above is just one of many examples we could all probably find.

I think it's a great idea. I'd love to sort out one of these with all the folk from the local- for the same cause! It's quite hard to look at people the same way when you've seen them nude, though.

Exactly: Not that I'd ever say anything like that again though- prior experience at a wedding.

"Hello, Gareth..."
I respond with typical dumb confusion
"...it's me [name deleted]. Bride's mum."
"Oh of course. I'm sorry. Last time I saw you you had just your knickers on and your hair was all over the place."

I did manage to get away with it because my response made her sister snort Pimms out through her nose.

I don't think it is offensive at all ... just boring now, been too many of them to support various causes.

Do my best for this 'charity' by putting any old textiles in the green bag provided by H.B.C.

What superb publicity they have had for the calender.
They are sure to sell out now.

What a hullabaloo about nothing!!! There will be worse on sale come crimbo and the cause they will be in the aid of is the wrong kind of rising to the occasion! I think that what pics are shown are artful and in good taste. It will sell despite "prudes are us" trying to down the idea.

This is pathetic. Have these people who have been pictured in a state of undress nothing else better to do? The nude calender idea which started off in a Yorkshire WI some dozen years ago is now an old and tired cliche which is well past it's sell-by date. If this lot want to raise money then let them use their imagination and do something else rather than this boring old twaddle. They won't be getting 'owt from me.

Don't see any problem with it .... Kingston Fire Dept. do it every year, and the proceeds go to the burn unit at Kingston General .... and for the past couple of years Queens University women's rugby team has published one.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but last week's "The IT Crowd" embodies this thread entirely. Geek nude calendar, anyone?

(Note- it might not play on FireFox unless you use the "fullscreen" icon top right.)

You could probably find a torrent for it, although if you don't know how to use them or the downloaded results, you'll have to research it yourself... :o Can't be seen to be helping anyone breach copyright (not too much, at least).

Re: Saucy calender creates uproar!!!

Not really. If someone is desperate enough to copy our photos, they do. We watermark our stuff to try and prevent it, but still someone I know has printed out all the watermarked pictures and has them on display around the house, watermark and all.

The only way to protect copyright is to sue someone in a civil case. The benefit of having our "stolen" photos on display somewhere outweighs the ill will from something so drastic as suing.

We're actually very adamant about our copyright. We have never relinquished it, and don't foresee any situation where we'd need to. Where we're weak is in litigating to protect that copyright. The ends don't justify the means.
