Badly designed goods

1 Attachment(s)
Grrrrrr - I am seriously stressed today.
The Hoover fridge freezer I bought last December is badly designed.
For the second time this year I have had to phone Hoover customer services to request a replacement drawer for the freezer section.

When the drawer is full the weight gives it momentum when pulled,
and there is no drawer stop,
so it comes out completely,
lands on the floor,
spills all contents
and the drawer front snaps off,
and will not refix because a flimsy plastic lug that connects the drawer to the drawer front is snapped.

I have obtained a promise of a free replacement for the second time, (because the thing is less than a year old), but I can see this is going to be a recurring problem.

A bag of grated mozarella cheese burst its contents all over the floor amongst the carriers containing 2 weeks groceries which had just been delivered.

So if you are shopping around for a fridge freezer avoid this one

Ours has done that since we bought it in 2001. A couple of weeks ago, I was so stressed I pulled it out completely and armed with superglue, vowed to fix it once and for all. The family steered well clear: I'm so incompetent with DIY that in the rare instances I decide it take action, it's because I'm really p*ss*d off.

Then I noticed that the lugs that should have been at the top to hold the drawer front on were at the bottom, and vice versa.

So people have been putting up with this poor design for 7 years!!!

Perhaps we should complain more to ensure better standards of design.

I wondered why they don't quibble when I ask for free replacement drawer - they must be getting the same request daily

I have the same problem. Try a bigger fridge.

I got it from Littlewoods (get agents discount)
I have left a bad review of the appliance on their website.
Maybe I should kick up more of a fuss with the hope of getting it replaced with a different freezer.
seriously considering it

Yep well, I can see where you are coming from, watch the adverts on Television and the worst designed of all goods is WOMAN, Pads, creams, more pads for different situations, Aspirins, (must be the best contraception going, 'I've got a headache!'), Indigestion tablets, Extra sensitive yoghurts for constipation! Isn't it strange the ad's demonstrate blue periods and also blue leakage, (I'm glad I never took up dancing), no wonder you all need such big handbags. The scrotum may be wrinkley and small but it's the only bag a man needs to carry to get through the day!

:hidewall:

Re: Badly designed goods

i would take the drawer out and not bother with it - i took the top two drawers out of my freezer because they just have veg in them - the bags stack without a problem and there is loads more room without the drawer
dont know if you would be able to do that as our has shelves under each drawer aswell
but if you can the extra room really is worth it.
oh and the fridge pictures always make me laugh - i mean - who has a fridge and freezer that looks like that ?

MargaretR 15-10-2008 22:59

Re: Badly designed goods

There aren't shelves under the drawers and since the drawers aren't very robust I doubt that one would bear the weight that was intended for two.

I agree that photos of freezers show them containing very little, which is quite ridiculous.
Thanks anyway for suggesting
