Air Ambulance collectors BEWARE

Theres a couple of uniformed air ambulance people knocking on doors getting people to give them bank details for a 1 quid a week donation..

An hr after visiting here the police knock on the door looking for them

THEY ARE NOT SAYING THEY ARE DODGY

But they have had some complaints and are trying to find them

I repeat THEY ARE NOT SAYING THEY ARE DODGY.

now now Kipax, the tarts left the building now ;)

the oldish guy who came to my house flashed me a badge that he had around is neck but i didnt look at it properly, if i could have given them some money i would have had a better look at it

he should have shown me it and let me read it, so i suppose they could have been dodgy

BUT I'M NOT SAYING THEY WHERE DODGY :D

Re: Air Ambulance collectors BEWARE

Re: Air Ambulance collectors BEWARE

I hope I am not doing them a disservice..they may be legal.. but strange the police would be looking for them... best to warn others.. nothing wrong with double checking people who are asking for bank details even if it is somehting worthy :)

Re: Air Ambulance collectors BEWARE

I wouldn't give out bank details to ANYBODY!!!!!!
They may be legit, but if the info is not safely stored it could get into the wrong hands

Re: Air Ambulance collectors BEWARE

About a year ago a chap called here looking for me to take part in a lottery for the Air Ambulance. He produced a Direct Debit form and asked me for my details and I told him no way would I give out my bank details on my doorstep. I asked him to leave the form with me and said I would post it but he wouldn't.

I emailed the Air Ambulance HQ, later, and asked them if this caller was genuine. They replied that he was and that it was their policy to get details that way. All I can say is they must be losing a fair bit of money because I can't be the only one to refuse to fill in a DD form under those circumstances.

That's what I usually say.

Either that or I'll sign up online.

Two of them in full uniform will be able to con quite a few people if thats what they are up to... Your view certainly but a bit blinkered..

Think you’re wrong in saying that. Some folk just aren’t as intelligent as others, they are vulnerable. That’s what the opportunist type conman relies upon. It’s like any door to door cold calling, a numbers game. Knock on enough doors you will get a sale or con some poor sod out of their cash.

Being a bit dim hardly makes a person deserving of being robbed on their own doorstep.

thats all the more reason NOT to give yer details to a doorstep caller IMHO.

Not to give your details out is the best advice as you and several others have said.

The conmen who go around knocking on doors know that eventually they will be met with some poor soul who is either too trusting, easily intimidated by their patter or just not all that bright. It doesn’t mean that those people “deserve all they get” as glasgow guy stated.

You can donate online.

North West Air Ambulance - Donations

I'd certainly never give them bank details on the doorstep.

Re: Air Ambulance collectors BEWARE

If these people are legitimate, going round asking people's for bank details on the doorstep is ill thought out to say the least, especially when we read all the time about con men knocking on doors. Like Rindi says you can donate on line, which I have recently done, as well as buying things in the online store, they do a good line in calendars:D

Legitimate or not, what concerns me more is having an air ambulance requiring donations to operate.

An air ambulance is VITAL and probably more so than a paramedic ambulance and should be funded from the NHS budget that has been increased to compensate.

It is criminal irresponsibility that the government of any hue gives millions to third world countries, bails out banks, props up and subsidises private businesses, funds illegal wars etc but then cannot find the cash to fund vital services like the air ambulance and RNLI.

I have had them on the phone asking for my details no way be careful i signed up around 5 years ago and you would be put into prize draw every month and send you winning numbers i was conned for about 6 months needless to say never recieved any winning numbers soon cancelled direct debit .

I had 'em knocking on the door when I was up there a few weeks ago. I gave over my bank account details at Kaupthing Bank, High street, Rekjavik, Iceland.
