Flu Jab
One year i get an invite to go down to the surgery for it,the next year i don't.When i ask why i'm not legible for it they read from a long list of ailments & tell me mine are'nt on it so no jab.:(Do surgeries shift the goalposts every year or has a very large batch been shifted out to the supermarkets so we can pay a tenner for it:rolleyes:I just don't understand why one year i can have it then the next year i can't.
Does anyone know of any chemists/supermarkets where i can get it? |
Re: Flu Jab
My mother in law is undergoing treatment for cancer and was told by the `wonderful` Peel House (different building, same shambles (TM)) that she was`nt eligable............believe me after the fuss we made she was.!!!!!! i usually have it(asthma) but after they decided to balls up my appointment (long story) i`m not bothering this year but to be honest every year since i`ve had it i`ve had some real winter illnesses.....!!!

I have the flu jab, because the doctor recommends it for Parkinson's. The surgery never calls, you just have to remember to make an appointment as soon as it starts getting colder...which was about June this year.:D |
Re: Flu Jab
everyone is entitled to the flu and pneumonia jab especially if you are over 60 or have chest problems i would and go to the doctors and speak to the doctor or the nurse if you have one at the surgery because those receptionist think they ard doctors dont stand any messing get on with it
|
Re: Flu Jab
Everyone over 65 is entitled to it. My doc asked me but I declined , reasons here

Re: Flu Jab
[quote=garinda;649228]What qualified you to have it the other year, that means you can't have it now?
No idea.My ailments are the same. But 2 years out of the last 4 i've recieved a letter from Peel House asking me to go for the flu jab. When i enquired my ailments were'nt on the receptionists list this year.I'm not over 65 or seriously ill but i'm just curius as to why one year i qualify, the next year i do'nt. |
Re: Flu Jab

Re: Flu Jab
My docs messed up this year and are making my 8 year old have two flu jabs... he had one last Thursday and has to go back next month for a second. When I asked why the nurse said it's because everyone needs two jabs when they first have the flu jab, only my son has been having his for the past 3 years now but because they never gave him the two when he first had it he as to have them now. Oh well I guess it's best for him. Only problem is he is petrified of needles.
|
Re: Flu Jab
I get it because I was diagnosed with Asthma recently but my work actually pay for anyone who wants it to have it. They even get them done on site in work hours so its no hassle.

Re: Flu Jab
I had my 'flu jab a week last Thursday. The nurse persuaded me to have the one-off pneumonia jab at the same time (even though I was hospitalised with pneumonia in January).
Last Tuesday I went down with an horrendous chest infection and am now awash with antibiotics. It's probably a coincidence................:( |
Re: Flu Jab

Pneumonia is bacterial, so can't think this has affected you at all, as the jab does also not contain any live bacteria. |
Re: Flu Jab
used to have a coarse of "FLU" capsules (Red n Green) efforts way back n was flu-free fer many years, until 1 year they changed it fer the jab n had a real bad dose straight after, so in my case i never bothered again n never had flu, touch wood.

Re: Flu Jab
Research into Gulf War syndrome has revealed a better insight into how vaccines work
How Vaccinations Work - Th1/Th2 Immune Response What raised my eyebrow, and doubts, was this- "In individuals in whom the Th1 function predominates, causing many acute inflammations because the cellular immune system is overreactive, a vaccination could have a balancing effect on the immune system and be helpful for that individual. In individuals in whom the Th2 function predominates, causing few acute inflammations but rather the tendency to chronic allergic or autoimmune inflammations, a vaccination would cause the Th2 function to predominate even more, aggravating the imbalance of the immune system and harming the health of that individual. This is what happened in Gulf War Illness. The current use of vaccinations in medicine today is essentially a "shotgun" approach which ignores differences among individuals. In such an approach some individuals may be helped and others may be harmed." |

Re: Flu Jab
Although I'm in a high risk group, I refuse to have the flu jab. I last had it (the flue jab Neil) in 1994, before that within days of having the jab, it was away with the blue flashing lights, then in and out of hospital four, five or six times over the winter. Since 1994 I've been an in patient 3 times only 2002 in early September and twice this year July and early September again, in fact I was discussing the fact only 2 hours ago with my consultant at the Royal Blackburn. The only sacrifices I make are that I don't go into crowded place in the flu season, and if friends of relatives have any coughs or colds they keep away, because people can die from these ailments, if they give um to me:rolleyes:. In fact I'm a bit like Margaret in that respect as we both seem to hibernate during the winter

Every year for many years now I get a letter from my doctor inviting me to make an appointment for the flu jab.
I take up the offer and I haven’t had even a cold since then let alone flu. Was it the jab or was it because I didn’t get infected? Maybe it’s the fags that I smoke? No flu virus can get past the gunge in my lungs. |

Re: your last post ... I haven't had a cold for three years, and would you believe, think I have one now, just hovering at the moment, however, have just texted daughter and perfectly OK for me to go ahead with my jab in the morning. Telling me off too for not having it earlier... me being lazy I'm afraid, have had the note from the Doctor's for over a month. |

It’s nothing like a scratch! If they don’t fancy saying what could be misconstrued by dirty minded people, then say nothing. Just stick the needle in. It’s not as if the injection actually hurts and even if it does it is only for a second or two. |

That's nowt .. picked this up from my daughter's blog, she has a strange sense of humour .. 'WKD I grip a sharp, needle between my fingers and a blood taking bottle in my other hand...and as I approach the nervous patient... I just can't help saying, 'Hope you will bear with me here cos I haven't done this before' as I lick my lips nervously.... <<snigger>> Its just my little joke...Yeah I know... hahaha!' |
Re: Flu Jab
I get mine on thursday but it still seems that no one has had flu.
I've had it three times and it does not compare to a cold or even a heavy cold. If you are out and someone says they have flu - They haven't.You are going nowhere but bed if you have got it.:jimbo::jimbo: |

Bruises do look horrendous don't they, but only the blood spreading under the skin so don't worry about those. Whoops too much Karma given, will not forget though. |

Re: Flu Jab
Flu jabs for us old ones are the best thing ever. I used to think that I did not need them but I can assure you I was wrong. Three years ago I got a letter from the Surgery Saying that because I had just had a heart attack it was important for me to have the jab.I had the jab and never got flu that year or a cold either.Last year was the same no flu and no colds. I have just had it for this year and the Pneumonia jab as well.I always used to have colds and runny noses in Winter but not anymore. Get yourself along to the Surgery and get the jab. You will not regret it.

Each individual has to weigh their risk exposure against the likely adverse reaction. The vaccination is not ideal for everybody. |
Re: Flu Jab
The flu jab is effective against a handful of flu virus strains and can't protect against the common cold virus. It can't protect against a flu virus that hasn't been "predicted" either.
I've been having the flu jab for a few years now and I get colds - every time my granddaughter picks one up at school and passes it on. :( |

"Sigh...again.... stay with the knitting in 'People's Friend' Careful research is necessary for people like me to do before I give a vaccine, as I am responsible for that, and the person I administer it to. This means I KNOW exactly where to get my (word deleted) research and that doesn't mean 'The Ailment column in the Sun' Try this: http://www.ingentaconnect.com/conten...1?crawler=true " Could be useful. x |

Ingenta, a division of Publishing Technology plc my link is from a report by PHILIP F. INCAO, M.D. 1624 Gilpin Street Denver, CO 80218-1633 who has been involved in vaccine research He advises that he has found that the immune system has two parts and that after many vaccinations (which only have an effect on one part) the two become inbalanced and malfunction causing an adverse reaction to vaccines In recent years science has learned that the human immune system is much more complicated than we thought. It is composed of two functional branches or compartments which may work together in a mutually cooperative way or in a mutually antagonistic way depending on the health of the individual. I have read that this years version of flu vaccine is giving people a cough.
Also read that younger people are getting this years version of the flu more than they usually do, and more than the over 45s http://www.independent.co.uk/life-st...k-1208498.html |
