Reg Varney Has Left the Bus Stop
I just heard that Reg Varney has died, today, at the age of 92. I suppose most will remember him in "On the Buses" but I remember him being a comedian/pianist before that. Versatile chap, was Reg.

Re: Reg Varney Has Left the Bus Stop
When my mum was poorly, I went and bought her some on the buses videos, and she really laughed at them. In fact the staff had to go and make sure that she was ok as she laughed that much.
I didn't realise he was that old though. RIP Reg, and thanks for the memories |

Re: Reg Varney Has Left the Bus Stop
went round Pontins in Rhyl last year where Holiday on the buses was made... its not really changed all that much: very retro :-) still we like the 70's life was so much better then.

Re: Reg Varney Has Left the Bus Stop
His daughter has said that he didn't look his age that he was in his 50s when he played Reg, who was supposed to be 35, at least Blakey will get some peace now RIP Reg

Re: Reg Varney Has Left the Bus Stop
'On the Buses' was one of the worse Comedies of the '60's/70's; nevertheless, it remains infinitely better than the politically correct rubbish that today passes for comedy. As for Mr Varney, I did not know him and as far as I am aware he had no connections with Accy, so I shall not waste further bytes in posting meaningless condolences.

Understand what you are saying Tealeaf in your straightforward way, however, these actors and celebs are brought into your living room on a daily basis and do have an effect of being part of the family. We do feel sad, therefore, when they are no longer around. I didn't particularly care for 'On the Buses', but wish him a safe journey now to wherever he is going. |
