For The Attention Of Mick & Accyweb

As of tonight i resign my post as "entertainmet co-ordinator" i am sick to the back teeth of accyweb & its "pettyness" " back biting " & innuendo's.

If you have not noticed quite a lot of the original members have distanced themselves from this site & with good cause too.As im now doing so.

i won't miss this site at all. good luck to mick & all mods. GOOD BYE ALL.

please take a look at my avatar .............that should give you a hint of my feelings.

Re: For The Attention Of Mick & Accyweb

I don't take any notice of the carping, bitching, etc., even when it's directed at me. As far as I'm concerned this is just a website, it's not real life, and I can take it or leave it as the mood takes me. If a thread gets nasty, personal, whatever, I just don't post. If something interests me, annoys me or I disagree strongly, I say so and that's the end of it. If I get a nasty reply - it's water off a duck's back and, to be honest, it usually makes me laugh (especially when the spelling's a bit iffy ;)).

Mez, if you want to stop posting that's your prerogative. I presume you're announcing your decision to make a point and it's sad that you feel you need to do so. It's been nice talking to you. :)

Aww mez, please dont, who will I take the mickey out of at meets? :D And who will give me a slap for being lippy? You are one of the good reasons to go to a meet in the first place, I and many others enjoy your company, and your wit, I am not usually violent, but may be forced to come down to yours and tie ya up, chuck you in the car, and carry you to the meet... AND I will probably get plenty of offers of help! please dont leave accyweb mez! x

Re: For The Attention Of Mick & Acsysweb

I have to say that I'm sorry Mez has decided to throw the towel in, the only way to change things is to stay and fight your corner, and point out when you think people are out of line. From my own point of view, I never really take things serious, I can have a dust up with other members but hey I just forget about it afterwards. When you consider we have around 15000 members which is growing every day, Accy Web must be one of the best of its kind anywhere, you only have to take a look at other local sites to see what I mean, although I like these other sites there is nothing like Accy Web. Its only when you are unable to access this site that you realise what your missing, I know I did. Please Mez think about it before you make final decision, no one wants to see you leave, especially if its through other people and remember if some one really upsets you you can always tell them were to get off (:thefinger) seems to work for me

Jaysay, where has anyone had a bust up with Mez? who would want to? she's lovely. If it's referring to the meet thread, which it seems to be, people were voicing their opinions and giving suggestions, what on earth is wrong with that?

If the only problem is "pettiness" (backbiting and innuendo, fit well into the general "petty" category) why elevate it into something important, or legitimize it by quitting ... I realize that ignoring it won't make it go away, but, if your foot itches, scratch it; don't amputate your leg.

However, sorry to see you go:sad8: .... hope you change your mind.

Re: For The Attention Of Mick & Accyweb

Seems a bit ott to me too, don't get me wrong, I like Mez and appreciate what she has done but, hey, if you don't want the responsibility, just step away from that area, I know how these meets have gone and I know how annoying it is when things fall on their arse ( Accy Cricket Club, made special effort to get real ale on , fitted new pump, total turn up..... 5).
Folk won't commit and too complacent, so make it more casual, suggest a date, no pressure, no pub is gonna turn down the business and whoever can make it does so.
I personally haven't been to the last couple because since becoming a Mod I was treated differently ( stupid and petty but true) and because I don't want to be in the same room as some folk on here. ( sad but true).
But I will commit to attending one in the New Year regardless of who is there and how I am treated; Accyweb should be one big happy family, those that have made it otherwise know who they are and hopefully will either rectify their behaviour or take themselves elsewhere. :hehetable

I can honestly say I don't treat any of the mods differently just because they are mods. I tend to sit down and talk to people around me. I don't often move around chatting. I think you might be talking about the meet in accy when you were sat with mick and others across the room from where I was sat. Why that happened I don't know unless there was no tables/seats. You should have come over and told us to shift up.

i'm with neil on this, i sure don't treat any of the mods differently, i'm just as ignorant with everybody.:D;)

garinda 19-11-2008 22:36

Re: For The Attention Of Mick & Accyweb

I don't think I'd treat anyone differently because they were a moderator, or someone who'd been on here for ages, or if they were a newbie. It makes no difference.

I didn't know a soul when I went to my first meet, and was welcomed with open arms, and a couple of pints later felt as if I was amongst old friends, Mez and Lindsay being amongst those people that night.

If people haven't been to a meet I often wonder if they think we sit around having heated debates, and carrying on with arguments from the threads. The answer is no. It's all purely social, and a great deal of fun is had by all.

I'm sorry Mez appears to be cheesed off. I know she's put enormous effort into making the meets fun for everyone who's ever attended, and is very often the first one to introduce new members to the rest of the gang, hence the nickname Mother Hen. Your efforts at the meets were much appreciated, as well as the countless other nice things you've done for members away from the limelight.

I can only speak for myself, but thank you.

I sincerely hope you return soon, if that's what you want.

I've said for a long time that this seems to be a closed shop. And I know that alot of you won't thank me for saying this, but it is. And certain mods add to it as well. I'm not surprised that people are leaving.

You need to take a long hard look and see what is wrong.

It's wrong to let a few people take over, and that is what is happening here. I'm saying this as an outsider. It's what I have observed.

I appreciate the support you all gave and give me still over my Mum, but it is still a closed shop.

Sorry, but I have to say how I feel, and perhaps people need to take a step back?

You may have your reasons for saying this, but in this context the comment doesn't make any sense at all. Mez is the organiser of the meets, of people who many believe to be part of the "Accyweb Mafia" closed shop.

Nobody wants Mez to leave, everyone that knows her loves her. noone has said anything wrong against her or tried to upset her, merely offered opinions.

Some of the people who gave opinions or suggestions are part of this so called "mafia", so how does that fit with your comments?

I've only met a handful of people from Accyweb. I don't know who is being referred to when people say the mafia.

When did this Accyweb mafia thing start?

It seems to be mentioned every now and again.

I don’t get this “mafia” thing. I’ve met only a few members and have found everyone ( so far ) to be as friendly online as they are “ for real ”

The site has been going for quite a few years and there are many long standing members, friendships get forged over time. Yes, you can tell those members who are really comfy with each other, it’s hardly a crime, just human nature. There is no “closed shop” nor “mafia”

Do what you feel you have to do Mez, I’m sure the site will miss your support.

Internal politics.... you will always get this on a web site such as this:
There are those that do and those that don't: at the end of the day it is just a web site... so calm down:

I think at the meets to encourage new comers .... people should wear some kind of name tag: I have said this before... it is very off putting for some one alone to walk into a pub and meet a group full of strangers...especially if your a female:

I think there should be some kind of meet and greet set up... I have only been to one meet and found everyone to be friendly... however it was just like the site really, those that chat on here in one corner ... and mods in the other: Had I been by myself I really don't think I would have stayed....

Re: For The Attention Of Mick & Accyweb

The Accy Web 'mafia' usually get mentioned when one person's views are disagreed with by the majority of other members. It's accused that there is some sort of sinister plot to gang up on them.

There is no plot of course. It's that they just need the scapegoat of thinking there's a 'mafia', to comfort themselves that nobody else seems to agree with them.

Accy Web is a democracy. Every single member has an equal chance to have their voice heard. Members are free to post as much, or as little, as they like, as long as the forum rules are adhered too. Some people may disagree with what's posted, but again that's democracy.

If the time comes where I don't enjoy this forum anymore, don't expect a farewell thread. I'll vanish just as quickly as I came...and the night I came I loved it. I probably made about twenty posts, and may have stepped on a few people's toes, buT hey, everyone else is able to do that too.

Besides I didn't giving a flying fig if some sensitive soul was offended by me.:D

:)

Re: For The Attention Of Mick & Accyweb

If we all agreed with each other it would be a very boring forum.

Each thread would be a statement, and people would just add to it saying 'yes I agree'.

The forum would be dead and buried in a month, the same as if there was a limit on how much you could post.

You'd have just used your one daily post to wish someone a happy birthday, then realise you have something important you'd like to add to another thread, but can't because you've used up your post ration. You'd get very bored, and go off somewhere else, to say whatever it was that was on your chest.

Re: For The Attention Of Mick & Accyweb

I have heard the 'clique' thing before, but not the 'closed shop' or 'mafia' thing going on, At meets, you do as I said before generally get a politics table, a football table, a mods table, etc, you have minglers (or intelligent people) who can talk about any subject, and then people from all the tables who smoke, and chat outside, in general, the people who have been on this site the longest, greet each other more readily because they have known each other many years and it is human nature to do that rather than spend a lot of time with a 'stranger', but in my opinion, everybody makes newcomers feel very welcome be it on here or at a meet, the only kind of segregation (if you could call it that) are when people disagree strongly with another member, or think that something a member has done or said is very disagreeable/unsavoury/callous etc, but in general, they are all talking again very soon, if this were not the case, I can think of maybe 2 members who would not get any answers to thier posts at all, but they still do, and why not? They are entitled to thier opinion without fear of a 'clique' ganging up on them because they disagree with that opinion.. Going to load my gun now for the next person/bunch of people that disagree with me! :p

I really can understand anyone saying people are leaving and its a closed shop and there's a Mafia. Has anyone took the trouble to watch the membership count at the bottom of the opening web page, as conservative estimate I'd say the membership goes up by about 15 per week and can't think of many leaving. I know very few people on here, would know them if I bumped into them in the street, but on the whole they're a decent bunch on here, okay you get a clash of personalities, just like any walk of life and Accy Web does mirror everyday life and that's why I like it saw much

IMO,& slate me if you think i'm wrong but sometimes i've found the web a bit 'clique',especially amongst members who've been on for years or have introduced close friends, using christian names instead of user names, dropping in info that is alien to those not in the know(if you will)e.g spouses/kids names.Me,i'll carry on regardless, but some newcomers might think otherwise & maybe thats why a few members are'nt posting as much as they used to.Sometimes members need to lighten up a bit, there's one who who seems to take exeption to all who does'nt agree with his comments.I realise some of the stuff on here is meant to be taken seriously, but getting the huff & quitting beats me.Give it a rest for a while if you feel you must.Mez, this is'nt a slight on yourself as we've met (albeit briefly) & i understand your frustration at trying to round us all up.Resign your post,if you must, but don't desert the web:)

I have been posting on here for 4 years and I can categorically say there is no Accy Web Mafia or clicque. There are certain members who make life hard work for the mods and there are certain members who are just a pain, but that's life. If you don't like what you get here, make your complaints, if it isn't resolved, then go elsewhere. We can't please everyone; and strangely enough we do actually have social lives outside of Accyweb so don't be suprised if it takes a couple of hours for your report to be answered.:)

By the way....... i do answer to anything and everything ... cashy, tinks, rindy, spuggie (if you get hold of him), and the rest will all vouch for that!!!!

Can also say i was worried at the first meet i went to ... and rindy agreed to meet me outside the stag .... and he introduced me to near enough everyone ....

I've given up ever trying to get into the chat room , each time I try it says " newer version of Java applet reqd" (that doesn't work ) even after following the instructions in an old thread about clearing everything and loading the old version it didn't work , so I've given up, put it down to there being a special link somewhere which only 'special' members know about. :D
