The Ancient Order of Foresters.

Notice in the planning applications list up to 7/11/08, application on behalf of The Ancient Order of Foresters for :-

'Erection of retail unit on vacant land adjacent to Unit 4 car parking and additional external landscape.

Eastgate Retail Park, Accrington.'

Have googled them, but still a little unclear as to what they do. Does the word 'retail' mean they sell goods, say like the Society for the Blind, or selling their membership, insurance, etc ?

I once worked with a 'Forester' - I believe they are 'poor men's freemasons'- can't think it will be anything other than yet another charity shop.

LOL Cashy, according to my googling, more metaphoric than that:-

Meeting in Leeds, this seems at first to have been a purely sociable society until the members decided that they had a duty to assist their fellow men who fell into need "as they walked through the forests of life".

I know they mean well but is Accrington seen by all as a charity case?Maybe they want to open up there in anticipation of all those giro junkies who will be attending the drug/alcohol dependency unit round the corner:confused:

I always thought the RAOB (Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes) was the common man's version of the freemasons.
