Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
Seems the Spanish are getting fed-up with British yobs/slobs
Benidorm declares war on unruly British tourists - Telegraph my question is ........why do British tourists think its okay to wear replica football team shirts and track suit bottoms anywhere apart from a football game or a private family barbeque , dont they realize they look like complete idiots. The vast majority of folks visiting Ayers Rock, Milford Sound, Disneyland , Disneyworld , Grand Canyon , Taj Mahal have no interest in seeing your Blackburn Rovers/Burnley/Accrington Stanley team colours . Show a bit of class when you travel overseas , you are a reflection of your country   |

In July and August there are more Spaniards, Italians and Portugese using the beaches than Brits and that is when the trouble starts. Spanish teenagers in their 'Macho' gear...naked, are seen to disregard the law. I'ts their country and they choose to do what they want. Spanish antics dont make the newspaper headlines, unfortunately the British do. Long range reporting is all very well if the facts are reported fairly. Why comment on something that is obviously beyond your ken? |

And why on Gods green earth would the Italians and Portugese want to flock to the Costa del Chip-shop when they have the Atlanic ocean (Portugese) and the Agean and Ligurian seas (Italian) available to them  As for complaints about the behaviour of the local (Spanish) youth , as you say , it is their country (none of your business) and I doubt they are the ones vomiting up the curry, chips and gravy, neccesitaing the continuous need for the beach clean ups  ;) |
Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
I think the trouble is that young Brits on holiday don't do anything different than they do every weekend here in Blighty, they just do it every night that's all. City and Town centres are awash with drunken youths every weekend, which is portrayed on the numerous cop TV shows that now grace our screens, but when on holiday its just one long two week bender and all the problems that go with it
|
Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
disagree with roy, from what i saw in two n half years of livin there albeit the costa del sol, 95% of the unruly drunken trouble, came from brits of that ilk, i hope the spanish do clamp down on it.

I do agree that drunken yobs are a problem and the Spanish Police do not stand any nonsense but what I am saying that i'ts not just down to the Brits as the article suggests. The Spanish have created an environment to provide a holiday for many Brits and most of the curry and chip takaways are Spanish owned as are almost all of the night clubs. The Germans are not so angelic nor are the Dutch but again no headlines. Italians and Portugese have in fact got their own resorts and beaches but thousands choose not to use them and come to Spain. |

Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
It isn't just Spain we export to.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/24/wo...e/24crete.html Many of these 'tourists' would have had grandfathers who also travelled all over Europe. The difference being that they were part of a disciplined unit, and wore a uniform on their back. |

Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
ive spent a bit of time in benidorm throughout the years
and seen it get increasingly worse for idiots the worse for wear bar owners could help by not having happy hour all day two for one is available in most bars  |
Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
Some of the resorts must accept some responsibility for our drunks.
If bar owners didn't push their cheap offers, free shots, large measures etc, they wouldn't fall down in the street quite as much. |

Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
As usual most of the people complaining about Benidorm have never been there. It's not much different to anywhere else.
It is what you want it to be,If you want to mix with noisy disco type people you can do,or you can go to a nice quite friendly bar, there is something for everyone,Safari parks-theme parks-water parks and some wonderful mountain villages. Not many English bars have Happy Hours,That is mainly down to the Spanish who give you all kinds of rubbish to drink. There are also many cabaret bars with good entertainment for free. Sorry to say I think there are only 4 fish & chip shops but dozens of Chinese and Indians. The more observant will notice that there are no dustbins outside the Chinese. But what do I know only been 149 times in 37 yrs:jimbo::jimbo::dancedog: |
Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
This is why Malta is my holiday destination of choice. There's only one "clubbing" town, really, which is St Juliens, and "Club 18 - 30" don't go to Malta. The young Maltese are, mainly, boringly well-behaved and polite and can't stay out 'til the early hours of Sunday mornings 'cause they have to go to Mass at 9 o clock - their grandmas insist! - so there aren't that many clubs compared to a lot of places. :D
To be honest, I've often stayed in Ayiah Napa, Cyprus, and on various Greek islands, including Crete and Zakynthos, and the problems tend to be concentrated in very small areas and individual towns. I don't stay in down-market hotels, don't go to night clubs and there's not much trouble during the day because the prats are all asleep. ;) I only cringe at the airport when the undesirables are travelling. |

Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
Benidorm palace was great... what a show.. did the full monty.. best seats best meal... what a great night..
Can't say I liked the spanish people at all.. ignorant and unwelcoming.. not my fault all thats gone before.. the place smells and (no ones fault, inkow its hot and yes what do i expect duh!) too dry.. I got the feeling everyone I met in spain was fed up of tourists OR the english before they even meet you. PS also well worth a visit to barcelona camp nou with a football shirt on like everyoen else :) The french i found to be genuine and friendly.. very welcoming... met and spoke to many french people and every single one you could imagine being friends with.. very nice people.. Best part of france I ahve seen is millau village under the viaduct.. had two days there... would have been hapy with a week. spain for me 2/10, france 10/10 |
Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
Probably because they are forced to learn English at an early age and they feel superior in your case.:hehetable.I always got on with them.:D

Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits

Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
Well Thanks To Benipete i went to Benidorm with him last year it was November and just a few days stay but Peter new all the right places to take me the bars, cafes where else can you sit at 10-30am in a tee shirt eating full English breakfast and a pint and have a fag for 3 euro and getting a nice tan there are some very good bars there if you know where to look and Peter knows them all.:D
I had a great time and would go back like a shot .:D Thanks Benipete:cool: I know it was out of the main season but there where still plenty of people about especially in the Piccadilly bar but did not see one bit of trouble while we where there all the people i met where friends of peter and all very nice. |
Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
I had a good time... I made that pretty clear... the spanish people i didnt like... Still want an answer to the remark benipete made though.
Knowing where to go will help.. I guess thats why people go back to same place.. the more they know then the more they will enjoy it... I prefer new places to visit and discover.. but then I dont go on that many holidays :) |
Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
i agree with the huge fines for leaving a broken glass bottle on the beech and other dangerous items but getting fined for putting up an unbrella too early is a joke

Everyone can spell better than me.. what really ammuses me is people from other countries who send emails and apologise for there english when its better than mine :)
Ho and I did take the trouble to learn enough spanish and frenc to be able to use manners at the minimum and able to ask questions.. much to the great amusment of our kids. I am slightly illiterate.. there are reasons.. ... dont let it bother you.. doesnt bother me:) |
Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
spain you find if ya take the trouble, is very much like england,- different areas, different people, on the whole i found the spanish people great, friendly, very helpful, n even more so in andulucia. a sweeping generalisation saying ya don't like the spanish k-p, it would be like me saying i don't like photographers. which is not the case.:dflam:

Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
Went there for a mid-winter break a couple of years ago. First Spanish resort I've ever been to and I was amazed...I cannot for the life of me understand why people want to go on holiday abroad to sit in a real British pub run by Fred and Gladys from Barnsley, watching soaps, drinking British beer and eating roast beef and Yorkshire pud...still, each to his own.
However, I did find a great little bar on the front called "House of Blues" where I could sit, drinking Spanish beer, watching the waves roll in and listening to Chicago blues...so Pete's right, there really IS something for everyone. |
Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
I don't reckon much to beaches - prefer lakes, mountains and above all culture,
So I never see brit lager louts on holiday - and even the germans I meet are nice and civilised |
Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
I've never holidayed in any of the Spanish seaside resorts because of the reputation of the Brits, that reputation has been going on since I was young which is a long time ago, so it's nothing new. I went to Barcelona for a couple of days the year before last but it's the only time I've been to Spain.

Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits
We went for the first time last year & never ventured away from the old town.Full of nice restaurants, bars & shops, beaches were great & not too overcrowded. We'd heard what the new town was like & thought we might as well have gone to Blackpool if we wanted to drink Carling, watch Sky sports & eat english grub all week.We may step into the new town if we go again but i think people our age look for something a bit less hedonistic while abroad.
