Cash Points Or Tv
I thought the idea of a cash point ( hole in the wall ) was so you could get your money out quick and move on:
Not the case anymore, you are faced with loads of advertisements, that delay you grabbing your cash and moving on: Also whilst your looking at these adds, waiting for your cash you are an ideal target, for muggers and so on.... Next there will be flipping soap up-dates on them to watch .... number in money out is all that is needed: |
Re: Cash Points Or Tv
Spot on magpie, probably the banks trying to find new ways of making money (advertising), the likelehood of being mugged is an excellent reason to get this stopped! Now, where is entwisi when you need him? :D

Re: Cash Points Or Tv
since when have the banks cared?

Re: Cash Points Or Tv
For as long as politicians, the police, etc etc :p

Re: Cash Points Or Tv
I don't think the adverts hold people up so much, as the fact that a lot of people still seem to be terribly confused by the highly complicated operation of such massively advanced technology. We were stood in a queue outside one today and I swear the day-glo jacketed individual stood in front of the cash point was engaged in a game of "deal or no deal" to get his money out for the length of time he took.

Re: Cash Points Or Tv
The Nationwide cash machine has a full length movie showing judging by the time it takes to get money out. Painfully slow.

Re: Cash Points Or Tv
I'm here Derek!!!!
There are a few things that happen in the background that people maybe don't realise. the ads etc are there to fill the screen whilst these things churn away. firstly, teh cash machine doesn't decide if you can have the money. It takes the pin you put in in an encrypted format, the amount you request and sends a mesage up to the bank who owns the cash machine. if your account is with that bank then it responds with a yes/no response code. if it isn't your bank then the response wings it way to the Link network who then contacts your Bank and gets a response code which is sent back to teh machine. This can take a few seconds and so its a common sense and business decision to try and sell you something whilst your waiting. Then it has to count the cash, teh machione that does this is actually a really complex thing that checks each and every note for weight, size, etc and can reject individual notes. This is all prepared in teh back and only moved and presented to you through a slot if its absolutely sure its counted everything correctly. Even when you take teh money it then has to start 'commiting' the transaction sending success codes to your bank etc so that your account can be updated. if you 'forget' to take teh money after a certain time its retracted and your account is recreditted(The machine even counts it back in so you can't 'take' 1 £20 and let it pull teh rest back!) . These things are hugely complex and very expensive pieces of kit. be grateful that you don't get charged for withdrawals like most of Europe!!!!!! |
Re: Cash Points Or Tv

Re: Cash Points Or Tv
Can’t say that I actually look at the screen once I’ve put in my request, totally focused on both the return of my card and the cash being delivered.

Re: Cash Points Or Tv
I usually stand there praying that it dosent swallow my card.lol:D
It happened to me once and it took ages to sort out. (mistake by bank) but no apology . typical |
