Who Is Fed Up With Football?

Who is fed up with football. Coz i know I am.
How dare they muck about with our soaps to put some over paid idiots on in there place.
Why cant they just keep one channel like BBC2 for the daft game.

Bagpuss 15-06-2004 21:32

Re: Who Is Fed Up With Football?

There's not enough footy on TV but far too many soaps and I don't watch any of them. If they scrapped some of the soaps then they would have extra money to bid for more football games so why not scrap Eastenders and Coronation Street for starters.

KIPAX 15-06-2004 22:10

Re: Who Is Fed Up With Football?

At least theres a point to football. I can't really see a point to soaps. My wife and daughters watch them all and what little of corry orry I have been forced to endure has been laughable to say the least... A young lad is gay... yeagh and? What poor handling of that story line. As for the farm people... new york doesn't have as many disasters as that village.

there is a reason behind football. I cant see one behind soaps other than to muddle yur brains.

I agree with you on the one channel.. stick it all on one channel (unless two games on at once) But to argue that soaps are more important..well....hmmmmm :)

ANNE 15-06-2004 23:04

Re: Who Is Fed Up With Football?

Excuse me Mr Kipax.
Do you see the words Soaps are more important than football?
NO!
I know nothing about football except these men kick a ball round a feild getting mucky and hug and cry and get paid for doing it.
So I can see no point in the game exept to entertain.
My question was who is fed up of football.
Not football v soaps, or is football more important than soaps.
I am saying leave our soaps alone. There are plenty of other channels.

You get him lass...

I am not a great football fan and Sunday ****** me off a bit. However... It is getting a little bit too soapy.

What happened to real life and good acting…?

Re: Who Is Fed Up With Football?

I am, personally, sick to the back teeth of football and the obsessives who rattle on and on about it. I note with disgust the petulant displays of violence over the last couple of days following Sunday's match, both here and in Portugal. If anything else caused so much disruption and damage it would be banned.

Football is only on one channel at a time :( So you have at least 4 others to watch at that time so why MOAN.????????????

Come on corrie is no good at the moment anyway ;)

Ceejache 16-06-2004 08:20

Re: Who Is Fed Up With Football?

To answer the too much football question how about this -

5.30-6.00 BBC1 Neighbours
6.00-6.30 Five Home & Away
6.30-7.00 Five Family Affairs
7.00-7.30 ITV Emmerdale
7.30-8.00 BBC1 Eastenders
8.00-8.30 ITV Coronation Street

EVERY NIGHT, 3 hours solid of soaps (that's two football matches!). THEN, on saturday during the afternoon on Five there is a Home & Away omnibus, an Eastenders omnibus on Sunday afternoon, a Coronation Street on Sunday also. Add to this the repeats of Family Affairs and Home & Away every day at 12.30 on Five, AND the Neighbours episode at 12.50 every day.

Even just taking the weekday evening episodes of these tragic events in consideration that adds up to 15 hours a week of soaps.....and every two years you moan when a little bit of football slightly disrupts your viewing?!?! I wont lie - I don't like soaps.

If anyone is sick of the football then just ignore it - dont read the newspaper articles and switch over when it comes on the tv news reports. I, personally cant stand the fixation with celebraties (A,B,C,D or even E-list ones) and their banal, meaningless 'antics' - I really dont care if Britney Spears has dyed her pubic hair polka-dot, so you know what - I do my best to ignore it, I dont read the gutter press and I dont watch any of the so-called 'entertainment' shows on tv - Hey Presto, it no longer intrudes into my life and I am no longer fed up with it!

KIPAX 16-06-2004 08:29

Re: Who Is Fed Up With Football?

Its a massive sporting event and some people still moan that it effects there soaps. I guess no matter what happens, if it effects there soaps then they moan.

I agree with your sentiments.. I stopped reading daily newspapers and rarely watch news programes... why? because its nearly all bad news.. Why spoil your day reading about bad news or watching someone tell you about bad news. No point crying about it so I simply dont watch/read it.

Some people moan about things.. some people take action :)

I find it disgusting moaning about football when YOUR country is playing in a major competition.

But what i do find amazing is that there are a lot of extra footy fans who dont watch club football.

Its just as well that i have no interest in football
or there would be blood shed in our house if Anne wanted her soaps and i wanted the football.
so i'm keeping my head down while the football is on hehe
if they change the soap times to put a football match on who gets shouted at ME

Tealeaf 16-06-2004 09:37

Re: Who Is Fed Up With Football?

What are you complaining about Anne....no decent soap? There's the second episode of a great new soap opera on telly tomorrow night..it's called "England Euro 2004" & it's a fantasy about a bunch of plonkers who believe that they can win something called the European Championship. However, there are only 3 episodes - final one is on monday night, when one rumour of the plot has it that a spacecraft will descend and embark our fearless band of Englishmen on a journey beyond the stars. The other rumour is that the series may be extended, but most serious commentators dismiss this as too simply unbelievable.

Come on guys, I wouldn't mind betting that most houses have more than one TV in the house. Nearly every home must have at least two in this day and age. Surely everybody can watch what they want, just not together.

I totally agree with anne here, i want to know why is it they are paid so much? people do damn far harder jobs than them yet, earn a pittence for what they do and half the time no apreciation what so ever.

KIPAX 16-06-2004 13:08

Re: Who Is Fed Up With Football?

What makes you think they get paid for hard work ? Skill is what they get paid for and the amount of people in the country who have that skill or can be found. Like a singer gets paid well. we can all sing but you wouldn't pay to hear me thats for sure :)

Tealeaf 16-06-2004 13:17

Re: Who Is Fed Up With Football?

Exactly. This England team is completely inept, a disgrace to the flag and morally bankrupt to boot.......how anyone can justify paying a guy in a week what 4 nurses would earn in a year is totally beyond me........our priorities are completely wrong. In Rugby, wage levels are capped...the guys have a longer season and the punishment they take is something wimps like Beckham could not possibly imagine.

I saw that those clowns at Gillette paid him £250,000 to advertise him shaving his "beard". Outrageous.....he dose'nt even have a beard - just a bit of bum fluff. Anyway, sod Gillette - I'll never use their razors again, ever. Wilkinsons sSword, now - for me, for life.

AccyStanFan 16-06-2004 13:23

Re: Who Is Fed Up With Football?

these players are gonna take whats offered, if you know you can get 250,000 for doing nothing your not gonna rake an offer of 10,000 are you?

as for rugby, IMO no skill required just a bit of speed and to be a hard "person"

and im sure rugby players will take whatever they can get too.

as for soaps, i cant see how people can be so "into" them that they can moan when somthing real comes on instead.

Tealeaf 16-06-2004 13:32

Re: Who Is Fed Up With Football?

The difference is Accy, England are the world champions in Rugby....whereas in footy we cannot even progress beyong the opening stage of this micky mouse tournament...as far skills - do you seriously think kicking the oval ball is easier than kicking a round ball?

Talking about footballs.......whatever happened to real leather footballs? Are those still available? I don't know what it is they're kicking around in the Euro games, but they're definatly not footballs....they look like partially inflated silver-coloured condoms to me.

Nice one Ceejache, like yourself I watch many sports and I always support my country even rugby union which I find it a bit boring. Tealeaf won't be bothered as he is just a wind up merchant which although some of his biased and mis-imformed posts annoy me we need people like that on the Accy Web just to spice things up.

Re: Who Is Fed Up With Football?

No point falling out with your partner....select an option below :-

1) With so many channels to watch these days, why not watch your favourite proggy on another TV in another room.

2) Use the video tape recorder, that's what they're for. Unless you threw it away in favour of a DVD player.

3) Persuade your landlord to screen the soap on his widescreen telly, and tell him how many girls will fill his pub.

4) To keep the peace and make love not war, take all your clothes off and dance in front the telly. That probably wont work, but just might at half-time if they are 3-1 down.

5) Go out with someone who likes rugby. It's not on the telly all that often.

Anyone got any better ideas ??

A woman is divorcing her husband after 23 years because he is so obsessed with Euro 2004. The 55 year-old from Plaistow, East London, said the tournament was the last straw.

Her husband - a 56 year-old West Ham fan - has taken two weeks off work to watch every match in the pub with his mates.

Man beaten with remote control after watching England

A Malaysian man who sneaked out of bed to watch England's Euro 2004 opener was assaulted by his wife who was armed with the TV remote control.

The man's wife also took the smart card from their pay television service to prevent him from watching future live soccer, says the Malaysian Star.

The 46-year-old salesman, identified only as Yap, claimed his wife forced him to go to bed early because he had to take their two children to school the next day.

He said: "She refused to allow me to watch the game although I promised not oversleep or shun my responsibility of sending the children to school."

When his wife woke up she grabbed the remote control and hit him on his head a few times before taking and hiding the smart card.

"My wife just doesn't understand my passion for football," said Yap.

After the man reported the incident to the public complaints department of the Malaysian Chinese Association, his wife relented and said he could watch soccer.

Inviting someone to come round and set fire to your house !!

I thought you were a soap fan.

No, I see Sarnie Boy and Wingy, driving along in a car towards a level crossing. A train from Preston is in a hurry to get to Accrington, and the driver doesn't see the danger ahead. Sarnie Boy and Wingy are deep in conversation about the latest ASF results and whether Ken Barlow is really gay. All to late they see the train approach them at great speed, and this forces the driver to take avoiding action. Alas this sets them on course to crash through the wall of the Pilkington bridge with a 100ft drop to the canal below. Quickly they get out their lighter for a last second cigarette. The car now bursts into flames as it arches through the air, only to be extinguished as it plunges into the icy waters of the Leeds Liverpool canal. Will they survive ? will they drown ? Find out next week.

That should raise the viewing figures. It still uses the lighter and petrol, but in a manner that discourages the good citizens of AccringtonWeb from setting each others houses alight.

Talk about flame wars.....

Re: Who Is Fed Up With Football?

Once every two years we have an international football competition that lasts up to four weeks and quite rightly it gets blanket coverage not just in England but all over the world.
:engsmil:
Wimbledon gets blanket coverage on both BBC channels at the same time but then it only lasts for two weeks. I don’t hear too many moans about that. But then in the main it is a women’s sport to watch.

I enjoy the football and shun the tennis because it doesn’t do anything for me. I also know where the OFF SWITCH is when the content on the available channels doesn’t appeal to me (like soaps) and listen to the radio or records/CD’s etc whilst surfing.

Whatever happened to live and let live?

By the way Mez – we don’t pay a fee to the BBC. The license fee is a license to allow you to set up a video receiving station in your home in the same way that we had to have a CB license to use CB or a driving license to drive. The government then funds the BBC and the funding is based on the license fee payments.
Read the back of the license – it states:
“You need a TV License to install or use any equipment to receive television programme services – for example a television set, video recorder, set-top box, PC with a broadcast card or any other TV receiving equipment.”

WillowTheWhisp 01-07-2004 14:15

Re: Who Is Fed Up With Football?

So do you reckon the government would still charge us a licence fee if the BBC decided to put adverts on?

No matter what the BBC does WillowTheWisp we will still have to pay for a licence to view TV programmes. Even if the good old Beeb packs in and goes away we will still have to pay for a licence to view something from the rest. :(
If the BBC started to show adverts paid for by the advertiser it wouldn’t necessarily mean that the BBC would have more money. This or any government would just reduce the funding.

Did you know that when you buy a new telly the retailer sends your name and address to the licensing authority?

Tealeaf 02-07-2004 15:54

Re: Who Is Fed Up With Football?

The real discussion should be "do we need a BBC or do we not?......If we don't need a BBC,then we don't need a licence fee, do we? Personally, I have no time for the BBC whatsoever, be it for the rubbish like East Enders, Radio 1 or the politically-correct drivel that passes for the news programmes. I find it absolutely amazing that this organisation with it's overt left-wing agenda can nevertheless justify it's funding by what is effectively a poll tax with the license fee. Hypocritical B*****s!

Never mind. I'm proud to say I don't have a license and have no intention of getting one. I occaisionally get a letter from Bristol (which I mark "Return to Gestapo HQ" and stick in in the letter box) or an ominous knock at the door. But so what? Hopefully, all this nonsnse will cease in a few years when the BBC Charter renewal comes up and we can dispense with the whole shoddy mess.
