Tories to raise council tax by 7 per cent (LT)
Lancashire Telegraph
from LT The rise by Hyndburn Borough Council would be significantly higher than council tax rises from Lancashire Police Authority, which has plans for a four per cent rise, or Lancashire County Council’s part of the bill, which is set to be a 2.9 per cent rise. Leader of the council, Coun Peter Britcliffe said the council would be working hard over the next two weeks to bring the figure under five percent and blamed (made up stories that) cuts in funding from central Government. |

Is this not already being discussed / argued about in another thread at the moment?

Re: Tories to raise council tax by 7 per cent (LT)
Here's an extract from the 'Telegraph' article that councillor Jones chose not to show us:
Although the overall bill would see a rise of 3.66 per cent for tax payers |
Re: Tories to raise council tax by 7 per cent (LT)
The County Part is only 2.9% this year as its county elections in May, if they retain control, which is very unlikely, they will do what they usually do, bump it up next year, plus there's a hell of a difference on 7% of 17% of the whole sum than 2.9% of 83% of the whole sum

God forbid we contribute to keeping our streets safe, clean and well lit.
Maybe we should just cut back on street lighting instead. Or maybe have monthly bin collections. |

Good point I suppose, I don't pay council tax, but I pay enough bloody VAT on stuff for uni that goes to the EU and that gets pumped back into the British economy. So I feel I pay my fair share to society. Just like I pay my fair contributions to NHS and so on. Plus I'll probably end up paying far more than most people in taxes if I end up with a good job after my degree, so it all ends up being paid and I personally have no problem with that. |

Hey ... soemething I'm familiar with ... City Council bs at budget time:mosher:
And the laying off of the blame for increases on the Provincial and Federal govts. (substitute "County Council" and "Central Government") .... the only thing we don't have is the Party bickering at the local level ... and it's something we can keep on doing without;) |

You see, you should probably drop the outrageous claims you make on taxation, you're wrong. We don't have the most expensive council. Why not just find something else to trip the tories up on. Meanwhile they'll continue to deliver services at a good price. If you want to know which are the most expensive have a look here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/1899...uncil-tax.html Do note Hyndburn is not on the list. |
