If there's more crud in the coffee...

Maybe it's just me and the brands of instant coffe that I buy (usually fairtrade but not always). Maybe I'm just getting a bit fussy in my old age (highly possible).
But
I have noticed that as I drain my life giving cup of caffeine for the past eighteen months or so there seems to be an increasing occurrence of gravelly stuff in the bottom of my mug (let's call it coffee crud). No big deal I know, but this is something that's really easy tp spot and my question is, what else is being augmented with similar non-digestible rubbish to save a few pence during these times of global hard-upness?

Fellow conspiracy theorists have you spotted a similar trend anywhere if so don't tell anyone. You never know who's watching;)

It's probably because you're using Yorkshire's mucky water to make your brew! :D

I honestly haven't noticed anything like gravel in the bottom of my coffee cups, whilst using Lancashire's finest Corporation Pop.

:D

I would suspect an attempt at mind control Rindy, but really, in Yorkshire?

Lol.:p

I love coffee, and change my brand regularly to keep my taste buds on their toes, but haven't noticed a gravelly residue in the bottom...unless I've accidentally flicked fag ash in it.:D

Re: If there's more crud in the coffee...

I have done a little googling and found this-
"Additives and Coffee substitutes or extenders include roasted Chicory, Chickpea, cereals, fruits and vegetables. These may be added in the manufacturing of some instant Coffees."
on this page
AllergyNet - Allergy Advisor Find

If the brand you use has these additives, the label should show that.
That reference to fruit and veg amuses me - how many cups counts as 5 a day?:D

In the book of lists I once read a list of the allowed incidence of foreign bodies eg beetle casings, fly larvae etc in various foodstuffs. It did not engender faith in what I munch

my dad used to live in batley which is part of leeds and the water there smelt like dog breath when you boiled it :D

Re: If there's more crud in the coffee...

When I got my dishwasher recently there was a water test stick include in the 'bumph'
We have 'soft' water
It does have rather a lot of chlorine in it which isn't good, but neccessary to kill any bugs.
Some recent good news was that this district opted NOT to add fluoride.
I filter all that I use for drinking and cooking
After that Camelford fiasco a few years ago - better safe than sorry

Ever thought of junking the instant stuff and grinding your own beans? Get yourself a little coffee grinder .... you can also use it as a bud buster:theband:
