is it selfish .....

.... to have more than 2 children?

BBC NEWS | Magazine | Is it selfish to have more than two children?

This bloke says it is due to the environment .......

i dont have any kids ... so i cant say yay or nay... but surely its the parents choice if they have more than 2 kids as long as they can afford them and not depend on the state for the benefits im not bothered... the kids are our future .... theyre the ones who will be running our country, businesses, schools one day ...

Oh mea culpa, I've had 3! They're all employed now, busily paying tax and NIC to help keep the nation solvent (well, nearly solvent) and, presumably, pay Jonathan Porrit's wages.

I only had one but he has had three - so does that make it even?

Re: is it selfish .....

I have two ... then I got fixed .... my great grandmother had twelve, all boys ... she must have been one mean mother ... But I don't think the number of kids should be an issue; it's the quality of parenting that is important. I don't think that selfishness comes into it .... from what I hear, you guys have a major problem with women popping out sprogs in order to get more welfare ... now this is not ok, it's not selfish, just lazy and greedy.

Re: is it selfish .....

Like i said if they can afford it then ok - but not depend on state benefits ....

It was the environment bit i was getting at though most of all .... ... thing is though does anyone ever think on how the environment is going to be affected when they have kids?

I dont think i would.

Polly your son is a blessing ....

Cashy - how can you say that you were cursed with 2!!!!

Well I ve had 4 and would do it all again .
It is down to the individuals imo and like cashy said if they can afford it.
Me and my ex didnt have a lot to offer financialy although we both worked but they never went without.

I think it's personal choice, and agree with other comments, that if you have enough love and food to go round, have whatever size family that's right for you.

Talking of busy bodies, concerned more with other's lives, rather than their own, last weekend the Sunday Times published photographs of houses belonging to famous environmental campaigners.

They used a thermal imaging camera to photograph their homes, and found them to be less efficent than the average house.

Get your own homes in order first, and keep your beaks out of other people's business.

don't see anything wrong with a married couple having as many children as they want , when single women start popping out kids that resemble 'tubes of Smarties' then I have questions  :D

Re: is it selfish .....

an ex of mine who chose never to have kids once said its all well giving tax credits here and there but where was her tax credit for not having kids and putting education costs , health costs etc on the government

i think she has a point and if a woman gets to the age where she cant have kids anymore and has had no kids then she should get a refund or a huge rebate of some kind when that time comes

1 was more than enough for me, he was planned, i never ever planned to have anymore...so i didnt...i dont care what anyone says, if you dont want kids then you dont have them, if you are not using the right precautions then you obviously want more kids, all this bull when women say 'i had my other kids cos my contraception failed' is utter crap, in 12 years mine has never failed...

if you wish to have a larger family then so be it, at least be honest about it and stop calling your kids 'mistakes' when they arent

ok rant over, think i'll go take my pill now :D

I agree with most of the comments on this, it has to be personal choice, but cutting your cloth according to its width springs to mind, I was an only one but have 2 daughters who have produced 3 grandkids, one and half each:D

In fairness Shaz not all contraceptives have a 100% protection
On the other hand the options are given these days and some are better than others.
There are an awful lot of lasses who blame getting pregnant on thier contraception failing and yes I agree (what a load of tosh)
If contraception failed so often then it would be time for the government to be looking at the whole picture all over again.
I am inclined to disbelieve many who blame their contraception

Again I agree with you If kids are not wanted then take precautions. and thats not just aimed at women either same goes for fellas.
This day and age there are no excuses . If you get pregnant then the odds are it was planned or something would have been done to prevent iot.
Sorry just MO..

Good advice.

Have you tried taking it yourself?

As stated in my post I believe people should be free to chose what they want to do with their lives.

I'd be really interested for you to provide evidence where I've preached what I think other people should do with their own lives.

I shall wait with bated breath for you to provide evidence to back up your claim.

The clock's ticking.

I don't think its selfish if you can afford to raise the kids and give them the love and guidance that they need and deserve.

Personally, I have 2 and that is enough for me :D (saying that though, I am a single parent so in no way would I think about having another child unless in a stable relationship which I knew was going to last)
