A cure for peanut allergy

It seems that doctors are working on a cure for peanut allergy, well not exactly a cure but a build up of tolerance to them. The doctors have a study group of 12 children who allergic to peanuts and peanut oil, they are starting off with very small essences of peanuts and building up their tolerance to them. After six months these kids can now eat a small amount of peanuts and suffer no side effects, but to keep up the tolerance they have to eat a small amount of peanuts everyday, even so they still have to carry a adrenaline emergency kit with them just in case

Seems they do not suffer from Nut Allergy in China .. due to the way they are cooked, which I think is what they do in the main.

It seems this great breakthrough has a lot in common with the principles of homeopathic medecine, in that like cures like.

Some good news for a change.

Re: A cure for peanut allergy

This isn't the first time I've heard of this, about 18 years ago my other have was diagnosed with celiac disorder, or intolerance to gluten in flour, the year after we went on holiday to Torque to an hotel who catered for celiacs, the owner was a celiac herself. There was a couple from Leeds who had a 5 year old little girl who was a sufferer, and they were telling us that the hospital had put her on a course called the Gluten challenge, which was designed to build up the youngsters gluten tolerance. So I suppose the thinking is that with allergies if you can catch children young enough there may just be a chance that you can build up their resistance to it

The only problem with some of these allergies cashy is that sometimes people come Ito contact with substances by accident and it can have a devastating effect on their lives, we only have to remember the teenage daughter of Franco, who died from anaphylactic shock. If I come into contact with certain sea foods it sets of a reaction with me, the last time around 16 years ago I ended up in ICU for two days, it was only after I found out that there were traces of prawns in something I'd eaten
