Public Apology

A Very Public Apology

Some days ago, I posted some photographs from my childhood. My aim in doing so was to share my memories of Church Kirk and to jog the memories of others, both to aid those that may recognise the people or scenes depicted within them and to open a forum for others to share theirs.

Unfortunately, my sister has objected to the publication of two of those images. I have sought the assistance of others in order to remove those images from the. I will also edit all of the Threads that I have posted to ensure that no further offence is caused.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to My Sister who wishes not to have her name plastered over the web for publishing them and causing her distress.

Furthermore, I apologise to all members of this site for any inconvenience or distress that may have been caused through any apparent animosity displayed in relation to any discussions between my sister and myself on this site.

I must clarify a statement that I have no editorial control over. I originally joined Accrington web to find members of my extended family and my father Alan Douglas. I recently received a copy of a year old e-mail written by an individual who may have known my father. This e-mail stated that my father might have passed away some six years ago.

Although I generally accept that this may be the case, I choose to seek clarification of the fact from the only people who can give me appropriate facts, and that is my extended family. My father remarried and has had a new family to whom I know he was/is very proud of. I am aware that they may be viewers of this site and I apologise deeply for any distress that may have been caused to them.

To the Moderators…I offer you my withdrawal from the site, if you believe it to be appropriate and that such a withdrawal would be beneficial to the good name of this site and its membership.

Re: Public Apology

Funny thing...

I have always loved animals and horses in particular. For those horse lovers on the site. I use to come over in the late seventies to spend time with my father. Invariably my visits would end with a visit up to gallows hall farm to see family friends who held the property at that time and had two or three Cobs. Cathy (now in Canada – a fantastic lass. I still miss her). Memories eh…

I am still involved with animals. I spend my holidays looking after a 130 acre farm up in Garstang caring for 30 Welsh Cobs, 80 sheep mostly B***** Suffolk’s, two dogs, 7 hens and two mental geese. The farm belongs to Joyce's (my partner) brother.

Geese are very good for Christmas

Tealeaf...

Your a very naughty boy...you shouldn’t encourage her. KIPAX would't be happy if you feud about with someone else...

Re: Public Apology

Doug, if I'm not feuding with at least 6 on here I'm not a happy bunny...bring 'em on - the more, the merrier!

Re: Public Apology

Doug I dont see any need for you to leave this Site... You have done nothing we all would not of done..
Unfortunately life is sometimes more complicated than we can foresee :(

Tealeaf dallas was enjoyable because it was not real just fantasy, this is real and therefore I for one don't find it enjoyable, in fact to see something so personal played out in public is quite sad :(

I enjoy seeing Van Damme fight on tele but if It was happening in front of me for real I would be very upset...

Life is much to short for this

Tealeaf 20-06-2004 00:06

Re: Public Apology

Now then, Doug & Jess.......look what you've gone and done...got me into real serious trouble with Simon....now he thinks I'm a bloke called Van Dam (the mussles from brussels) and we're going to have a fight in a pub...oh dear..

Tealeaf 20-06-2004 00:07

Re: Public Apology

If things are a bit confused, it's because I've had a coupleof pints

Doug 20-06-2004 00:08

Re: Public Apology

Thank you for your comments Simon,

Don't be too hard on the old chap. I am sure he is just trying to lighten the load for us all.

I would only leave the site at the request of the moderators and or, of my own accord to prevent any further animosity developing in the public arena that might upset or cause distress to those that have welcomed me and assisted me behind the scenes.

Me and the other person concerned have never seen eye to eye since the early days back in accy.

Thanks...

Re: Public Apology

Tell you what Tealeaf,

I'll buy you a pint when I get over...No arm done.

Tealeaf 20-06-2004 00:20

Re: Public Apology

Doug - It will be good to meet you...and I know sentiment is shared by everyone else who is a regular on here. If you do come over from Bispham tomorrow...could I suggest you take the train? There will invariably be a few jars knocked back and the journey from Blackpool to Accy is pretty quick these days

Doug 20-06-2004 00:28

Re: Public Apology

Thank you Tealeaf,

Your a gentleman…

Re: Public Apology

You know life is a bitch but has it happens we are all here together (at this time) through no choice of our own. No point in blaming each other for what others have done? Life is short, one day every one will regret the things that they have said and done, accept what is, because one day you’ll all need each other.

P.S
I have had a few beers and in the morning I shall edit or delete my post.
I have probably miss read this thread but if I haven’t then it stands.
Regards, Len

Doug 20-06-2004 03:35

Re: Public Apology

Thanks Len,

Your a gentleman too...No need to edit or delete out.

One can only hope that the views of others stand to help smooth the path for those less fortunate than ourselves.

I don’t know where the b****** H*** that came from, but I suppose it is Sunday after all.

Doug 20-06-2004 03:38

Re: Public Apology

I hope this matter ends this day. I have better things to do, like recover from the ale that I supped in self-punishment of my sins…

I did this freely, protesting my innocence to my chosen gods.

Re: Public Apology

This type of problem is always present when dealing with individuals still alive.

It can arise when seeking out mates, or schoolfriends, or for family historians and genealogists, looking to expand the picture by seeking descendants, or friends, with a living memory of individuals in their family tree.

So it's a superb illustration to others, of a problem that can arise out of the blue.
It's also a perfect solution to this problem. A no quibbles removal of any offending material, and a sincere apology.

Doug should be congratulated on his post, that shows both the problem and the solution. It should help others who could find themselves in a similar position in the future. He should not treat himself too harshly.

=======================================
To support those publishing family trees to the web, consider the following :-

The software you use should provide you with a facility to privatise and remove sensitive information for individuals from 1904 to present (based on current year and the 100 year rule) just before transfer to the web. It's safer that way, but you get to keep the information for your own record.

Although it can be a technical subject, if you have your own webspace, and upload webpages with sensitive information, find out about .HTACCESS and .HTPASSWD files, that enable you to establish an area that is username and password protected.
=======================================

Finally, hats off to Doug for the way he dealt with the problem.

I don't think theres any need for that Kipax!!!
Infact i think its well out of order!, the guy was not being offensive to you whatsoever, he was simply making a humerous remark! You yourself stated the other day that you were happy to have debates with Tealeaf, and had no problem with it! So whats your problem with doug's remark??????

Doug 20-06-2004 22:31

Re: Public Apology

It is ok Wingy,

I don't think Kipax is to out of order if he feels offended. I have apologised for much less lately

KIPAX - See your PM Box. Thanks

KIPAX 20-06-2004 22:34

Re: Public Apology

I am more than happy to have a debate with tealeaf... after all thats what he is there for isnt it :) tealeaf is a big lad.. he knows how to play the game and enjoys it..why are you even mentioning that..

Why do you think I have a problem with dougs remark. ??? I havent.. cant think why your thinking I have.. doug is entitled to remark and say whatever he wants just like we all are...

However I think his remark was uncalled for and so I responded.. you say it was humurous... you wasnt on the end of it was you? so it may be humurous to you and him and others.... personally i dont like being on the end of it.. I dont have a problem with him making the remark though

You have me confused now mate.... surely if he is allowed a dig at me then I am allowed one back.... ?

its not real life tha knows.. its just a messageboard :)

WINGY 20-06-2004 23:00

Re: Public Apology

i haven't got upset over anything Kipax, i certainly haven't told you how you are feeling, and there is no problem with me tonight whatsoever.

Doug 20-06-2004 23:03

Re: Public Apology

No worries Kipax. I respect your rights and I accept that I was wrong to drag you in to this situation.

Again, I am sorry for any offence that I have caused you.

Doug.

Doug 20-06-2004 23:10

Re: Public Apology

Wingy thanks for your support, but I accept that the Kipax has the right not to be dragged in to my problems.

It was off the cuff, but I should have considered his feeling, and anyone else’s who was not part of the original thread…although some will be happy with this outcome.

I am also gutted that you yourself have ended up being shot at for trying to help…Sorry lad…but hey…thanks.

KIPAX 20-06-2004 23:11
