Chocolate tax

A doctor in Scotland is pushing for there to be more tax put on chocolate to help combat obesity, what a lode of garbage. They always take a sledge hammer to crack a nut, I like a bit of Chocolate now and again, and I'm not exactly fat, so this chap wants to punish me for other peoples lack of self control. Its just like stopping beer deals at supermarkets to curb binge drinking, I don't binge drink either. So I and other people like me, who take things in moderation will have to suffer for those who have no self control, beam me up scotty:(:(:(

Re: Chocolate tax

I thought that the way to combat obesity was diet and exercise ....

Hey, just had an idea: instead of making chocolate more expensive, why not make the healthy alternatives cheaper:eek:

Taggy 12-03-2009 16:48

Re: Chocolate tax

Why do they always think the answer is to price people out of the market. Guess they also think that all people on low incomes are Stupid and Lazy!:(

Best Regards - Taggy

BBC NEWS | Scotland | Glasgow, Lanarkshire and West | GPs vote against 'chocolate tax'

There you go ... at least the rest of the docs voted against it ....

If chocolate is so bad why do they issue it in army rations, and recommend it for survival packs.

That quack wants his head examining, preferably with 1/2 a brick.

Spot on Margaret, a dog or cat can't tell the Vet whats wrong, the vet has to diagnose, wheras you tell the doc whats wrong and he guesses at the treatment.
What I'd like to know is, how deaf and dumb people ever get the right treatment.

This is sort of a serious question: why is it usually 1/2 a brick ... I remember it from my childhood back in the horse and buggy days, then it was half a NORI ... why a half brick and not a full one:confused:

Staying with the "brick" theme: this Dr. sounds like he is a few bricks short of a full load:mosher:

Without fried Mars bars many Scots wouldn't get any solid nutrition at all.

Man cannot live by Buckfast Abbey Wine and whisky chasers alone, at least not north of the border.

Because 1/2 a brick is easier to throw than a full one, whether its 1/2 a Nori or any other make.

Re: Chocolate tax

people already suffer extra inflation on chocolates every year around feb the 14 so god knows how much they will cost if extra tax is put on them

may end up been cheaper to fill the chocolate box with gold

as usual the many get punished for teh mistakes of the few but lets face it this wouldnt be the first stealth tax to come in under the disguise of been in our best interest

fags - put price up to protect our health but didt ban them which would relay protect our health

beer - extra tax to protect our health

mobile speed cameras - never quite seem to be in areas wher ethey are justified and could save lives like outside schools but tend to be set up where theres no houses, pedestrians or schools but they are there to protect us

chocolate - extra tax because taxing everyone will stop greedy sods getting obese

petrol diesil - extra tax to discourage us form driving around and damaging te planet when they know damn well if somone needs to do 40miles a day getting to and from work they will have to still do 40 miles a day regardless of how much the fuel costs or they are out of a job

oxygen/air - still awaiting tax on this but i dont think we will be waiting too long

Re: Chocolate tax

Of course it was a silly idea to put extra tax on chocolate, would not make one iota of difference to people who eat it in excess. They are heavy eaters and would only switch to eating excessive amounts of peanuts in front of the telly at night, which would probably be at least half the recommended amount of calories per day.

Obesity is becoming a problem, and beginning to cost the NHS heavily with diabetes, etc. If nothing else, this Doctor has just brought the problem to the fore, and maybe educated a few people as to what is a decent calorific value to consume on a day to day basis.

As usual, everything in moderation.

Not preaching, I smoke too much, and probably have more than the recommended quota of wine every week, but I do know the dangers and, as more facts come out, urging me to rethink about my lifestyle.

Could make a comment on why the kilts but that would be naughty. :D Buckfast is the devils own drink mi thinks it is vile. Deep fried mars bars or any other deep fried choccy I aint tried and have no intention of. Taxing choccy because people overindulge is wrong very wrong.

Only if they put chocolate in the batter. Now there is a thought we have beer batter so why not choccy flavoured batter might make a few quid from that i think. :D A choccoholic could get their fix plus some omega 3 as well. Though wouldnt mind a tax on deep fried pies.

Then it will be the fizzy pop that gets a stealth tax slapped on it.

I just wish they would leave us alone to make our own choices about what we want to eat and drink.
I am big enough and old enough to decide what is good for me. I don't need a nanny state to monitor my choices.....everything in moderation.

Spot on Margaret. :D Sadly the nanny state wants to control everything we do. Wont be long before they want us to eat as they say and but thousands on the dole that work in the industries that provide our little treats.
