Political correctness gone mad

A mate of mine just received this by email from a job agency:
Quote:

A full driving licence that enables you to drive in the UK is required.
However, we are willing to consider any proposals put forward applicants
with a disability that prevents you from driving, that would allow you to do
the job by another means.
The job they are trying to fill?

Tractor driver.

If I had a quid for each time that thread title has been uttered on here, I'd be a very rich man.

Re: Political correctness gone mad

At one time, and maybe still now, large employers were required by law to employ a certain percentage of disabled people.
I recall that my employer was urging existing employees to 'own up/come clean' with any disability they had, no matter how minor, in order to meet the percentage.
....a sort of discrimination in reverse....not a new thing....the instance I tell of was well over 20yrs ago.

No you clown I meant the fact that they have to word the ad like that for fear of causing offence:)

Don't know about political correctness but I think the agency leaves a lot to be desired. If a Tractor Driver needs a full UK licence then thats all that is required in the email. sounds to me more like a dumb agency.

There was another one in this mornings paper, some school have written to all parents saying that ball games have been baned in the playground because a child was hit in the face with a ball, one parent was quoted as saying, they won't be happy until we send out kids to school wrapped in cotton wool, amen to that

This will just be standard wording on every job application form. I have noticed it a lot on LCC application forms and other organisations. Even desk bound job apps have it on. Not PC as such, just saves time altering specifics for every possible job that the company/organisation can have.
