Community Police Service Can Work !!!

Recently in Altham we have been having problems with youths and adults carrying airrifles and shooting rabbits/birds/cats & taking pot shots at deers.

I emailed our local community police officer, he rang me within 6 hours and walked over from GT.Harwood and spent around 90minutes talking to me and asking me questions about the area and what he could do to help.

In Altham we have never had a good police service, dog warden service or council service. It took me 20 years to get the council to collect my rubbish bi-weekly!!. Were a semi rural community and local police just dont know how to handle anything outside of the normal.

Anyway, just wanted people to know that for non urgent matters the system can work. Rare i know, but in my case it worked.

But ok to shoot cats?, I remember many teenagers years ago used to roam about with air rifles, but thought it was illegal to carry one (not in a case) in public, and to shoot one within 200 yards of a building/footpath!

don't dispute it can work, think its just a cheap way of doing things though, should reduce the paperwork n red tape n let the police be policemen.

Thats great TJH, but I wonder if anything was actually done? Community Officers seem to have little power and the youths are aware of this. Perhaps one of the reasons he was able to contact you so quickly was that he was not at the local nick being tied up in paperwork because maybe he does not have the appropriate powers of arrest. He can listen to problems, talk to the youths concerned but thats as far as it goes..........
and they will probably tell him to **** off:mad:

Begger me, what the heck size rats are these?

Have you seen the damage it's done to my car? No Oscifer I'm not blowing into your bag, I saw, what I saw! and my front bumper being pushed through my windscreen should be evidence of that! (Hic, Pardon?).

I work in Altham.

On the road where the old Martholme Grange is deer have been seen running accross the road.

I have seen a few pheasants there and many rabbits.

If you're partial to a bit of roadkill for your tea, get yourself to Altham. :D
