Inappropriate headlines

I realise the newspapers have to report the news and sometimes that news is unpleasant. But I also think they have a responsibility to young readers. I had to spend a lot of time the other day explaining the front page of the Telegraph to my daughter who likes to read the paper.

Who else thinks that it was an inappropriate subject for the front page?

Edit by andrewb: The headline in question was "'Upmarket' Blackburn bar stages 'Ibiza porn party'"

i know what you mean Gayle, Reece likes to read the paper, we only get the Observer though, fortunately we dont get the telegraph

maybe this could have been a centre spread so you could have just taken it out

I take your point Mick - and feel free to remove the link - but my point was that it was front page on a local newspaper that drops through the letter box every day.

Missed what?
The headline or the party? :)

Well, the party, actually, although I see the story's vanished, too...which is a pity as I wanted to check if it was last Saturday or this Saturday coming. ;)

I haven't a clue what Gayle is referring to, so I can't really comment..... no link, don't buy the paper????

I don't live locally so I don't see this newspaper. What is the point of keeping the thread going if the link is deleted?

Re: Inappropriate headlines

i think the head line was " santa isnt real " which i think would be wrong for small children to see

ps:

he is real teh papers tell lies

lindsay ormerod 05-04-2009 21:56

Re: Inappropriate headlines

Not a typo there? "Satan isn't real" sounds much more believable!

Re: Inappropriate headlines

Well, as the link's been deleted, I suppose I can't say what it was about, or my post willl be deleted, too!

Re: Inappropriate headlines

Well, whatever it was about, it is still a topic of conversation as to inappropriate headlines in newspapers.

Children see all types of nasty headlines don't they in the form of destruction and crime linked to horrific pictures, so I suppose can't hide whatever from them altogether.

Still, presume whatever it was Gayle, may have sold the paper to the people with the cash .. the adults ?

Re: Inappropriate headlines

never saw it, so no idea what it was, all papers have a high percentage of garbage in em anyway, i'd be more worried if children were brought up to believe what they print without question.
