The Scottish Parliament is subsidised by the British Tax Payer

cheers and thanks for that tosh

Re: free travel

Last year the X64 started from Bacup.
I can't see that happening this year because Rossendalers will be reluctant to pay the full fare - so it's likely to be from Accy only (going via Ossy to the coast)
If PB really wanted to do us all a favour, he would have subsidised the X82 which would have served Gt Harwood, Rishton, and Clayton as well as Ossy and Accy.
That X82 wont be running because that gets no subsidy.

BERNADETTE 25-04-2009 17:22

Re: free travel

According to the Observer the service startson 4th of May and sets at Thwaites Road. It then goes via Oswaldtwisle and Accrington and will also call at Clayton-Le-Moors, Great Harwood and then Rishton before heading off to the coast calling at Blackpool and Fleetwood.
Dosen't say what time the outward journey starts but return is at 4.05pm from Fleetwood to get to Thwaites Road for 6.30pm. Anybody wanting any more info can ring Northern Blue on 01282-456351:)
So well done PB:)

So well done PB:)

So it is taking the route that was the X82.
Seems a shame that it has been granted to a French owned firm instead of the local firm that used to run the X82.

What credit should you give him?? Red Rose have been running that route 3 days a week for years, Winter, Spring, Autumn and Summer as most pensioners could tell you, but all of a sudden, the largest bus company in the county take over! HOW?? Ask P. Britcliffe

Re: free travel

Had a little gander at this and seems there are pro's n cons all round. Yes the pensioners should have a service so they can go out for the day it gets them out and about enjoying themselves. Just remember you will with luck be fortunate to reach retirement age. The services that are there need to at least break even to be viable. As there has been a fair amount of bluster that these conssesion pass payments from govenment are not enough so the prices charged to those who pay subsidise the passes. Yes its our taxes that pay for it and as I am still in full time employment I am in a way paying for it anyway. Another thing there is subsidised travel on trains for pensioners students and the disabled (may be more) so is that also to be a target of some?

A lot of pensioners on what the British Govenment gives them could proberly not afford to travel on a bus. I remember my grandparents being issued with those travel tokens that were ment to last a year but at most it was 9 months. These people have worked and contributed to the nations coffers so why cant they get something back

The comment about the Scots being subsidised by the British tax payer is an open debate but it seems that people forget that the working people in Scotland pay tax as well so they are getting back what should be theirs in the first place. With my pass on certain services out of Glasgow I can go to Carlisle and back. As for the theft of the oil revenue i have this answer that some will agree with but most wont no doubt; If and when Scotland gets independence it will be when the oil revenue runs out. For its poulation size Scotland could have had the standard of living enjoyed by Norway and its senior citizens would have had a better life than they have now.
