Night owl vs Early bird
Proof that us night owls are harder workers than you early birds ....
Night owls can work longer than early birds, scientists find - Telegraph So wouldnt it be better if we started later than 8am or 9am ... and worked later at night? Which one are you anyway a night owl or an early bird? |

ive always stayed up late, fer differing reasons, way back it was fer after time,in later years the sodding tinnitus.:D

That's a bit of a poser really, when I was working I nearly always started at 8am, and quite often worked while 1 or 2 am the following day. I once started at 7am on a Friday morning and finished at 10pm on Saturday night, just got my head down in the van for 2 hours 9 to 11 on Saturday morning ;)

I work early but then have a lull in the afternoon then pick up again for the evening - so I'm both but I reckon my default setting is early bird.

I'm up early 5 days a week
Weekends I make exceptions :D Going bed late is depending if I am working or not cos I don't finish til 11pm (Or getting drunk :D) |

the options to vote on are a bit misleading as I am definately a night owl as in I don't usually go to bed before 2am but then on work days I am up about 7am so I will have to go with it depends on what I am doing the next day as weekends I do have a bit of a lie in

I have been both. When i worked the pub game i was rarely in bed before 2 and up before 9, now i'm up at 5:15 and in bed by 10:30-11. Which do i prefer? Without children i'd say night owl, with them earl;y bird wins easily as you never get a decent lie in....... |

I think this is a very broad generalisation.
During my working life I had to get up very early.........I am talking 4am......for a shift starting at 6am(In Rawtenstall) this meant a walk from Clayton to Accrington to get the bus up there.......which got into Rawtenstall at 5.58....so then I had to leg it to the mill, clock in and set my looms on by the time the buzzer went. My nursing career meant lots of shiftwork too.....sometimes lates, sometimes earlies, so I reckon that after a lifetime of early rising it has become hard to tell which I am. Lifetime habits die hard.......and I still waken early......but am glad when i know I can go back to sleep. |

Well as there are 24 hours in a day it matters very little to me what time a task needs to be done.
I am quite capable of ignoring it within the set period.:hehetable. |

My body clock is totally out of sync.
It is all to do with seratonin and melatonin production in my body. In the past year I have gone from a sleep cycle of- 2hours sleep and 2hours awake, to sleeping 3 chunks of 6hrs, 2hrs, 1hr. I don't mind when I sleep as long as it can be one chunk of 7 or 8 (please) |

How do you describe going to sleep at 12.30am and getting up at 4.40am? That is what I did last night and by the look of it will do again tonight.
I also woke up with a 3 year old monster in bed and have no recollection of her appearing. |

After years of shift work, I can't comment on this. I did a night shift last night and am up for an early tomorrow. My body clock is all over the place I eat at any opportunity be it day or night and I would be a GP's nightmare with bowel habits.
Previous studies into night shift work have shown that shift workers actually lose about 5 years from their lives and tend to die younger. However, it's not like you are losing the quality years in your 20's and 30's. You are losing the last 5 years when you can't remember your own name, piddle in your pants a lot and wish you were dead anyway. :D |

Ive decided i get ratty at night when i've had to get up before dinner time ... you can blame cashy for this ... he came up for a brew .. said he'd be here after 12 noon ...

I tend to be up till between 3 and half 6 in the morning, then wake at 10am for work.
Sleep doesnt agree with me, there is always something to do so sleep isnt really that important to me. |

I'm definitely an early bird. I get up at 5:30am during the week and even at weekends I'm up by 7am at the latest. I tend to get tired towards the end of the day, so I'm usually in bed for 10pm, unless I'm out and about.
I can work better in the mornings and find I can get loads done. However, I find it hard to work in the evenings and even if I bring stuff home with me, I find that it doesn't get until the following morning. |

I'm a night owl. I've been up since 2am since I've messed up my sleep pattern due to revision.
Most law firms don't start the day til 9.30am in the City. Mind you, the work doesn't necessarily stop at a normal hour anyway! Some solicitors work 16hrs a day when big deals needs to be worked on. |
