The thing is Phil parents like this don't think they are doing anything wrong until thing go tits up, then there is much wailing and gnashing of teeth:(

The mother should have to pay the cost of the emergency services. Kids are precious and should not be left wandering on their own!!!

Yeah, right, she'd gone off 'shopping', which pub? No excuse to leave them really, only today Peter and I saw a very nice buggy with a drinks tray attachment, holding the mother's extra strong lager as she pushed the kiddies along, deluxe model or what?

More sensationalist reporting from the BBC. Are you all saying that you've never left your own kids in the care of adult relatives while you go shopping/out for a meal/upstairs for a sh*g/whatever?

I have. (Not all of the above though, unfortunately)

If anything - it's grandma who needs to be ridiculed by the likes of us: Saying they (the infants) will be in trouble when found, even though she's one of the ones who was supposed to be supervising.

i agree.... its not like she left them on the beach on their own (which is the jist i got from the headline)... she left them in the care of someone else who was unfortunatley rubbish, i hope she doesnt make the same mistake again.

I thought it was just the Mum too Studio when I heard it on my car radio ... that is what they said. Not 'til I saw this thread did I get the full picture, never took my eyes off the kids for one minute whilst out on any trip and sure lots of parents on here are the same. I know they can disappear very quickly, and that is why you have to be vigilant ... never a rest is it ?

What a typical Press sensation story. The children were not "left" by the mother, their grandmother was in charge of them. Maybe she was lax in watching them every second but children tend to wander off, no matter what. The woman was searching, frantically, for them and it's only due to where they ended up that there's any news in the story.

I must be the world's worst mother as I once "lost" my elder daughter in a Scarborough department store and "lost" my son in an open-air museum. Both, thank God, did what we had always told them to do if they couldn't find us and went to the car park and stood beside our car. I am obviously wicked and uncaring, just like these children's mother, and very lucky the BBC didn't hear about it. :rolleyes:

Must admit I once had my name called out at Asda "Will the mother of blah, blah" ... blooming embarrassing ... probably loads of people in there that I knew...:o Little monkey, had hung around the toy aisle no doubt, and was angry at him, as was searching frenetically for him at the time.

Its always amazed me just what liberties some parents take with their kids, the worst one I used to see on a regular basis was a mum pushing a pram along the street and then suddenly deciding to cross the road, they just push the pram off the kerb then decide to look left and right with the pram in the road, that really bugs me big time:(
