Gordon is a Moron until......

Just heard that the poison dwarf, Hazel Blears is the latest to jump ship. This is one of those wonderful historical moments as we see a government collapse. The question though, is exactly when will Brown announce his resignation? No doubt the men in grey suits are already on their way to Downing Street but as our PM lives in his own world of make believe we cannot anticipate a rational course of action from him. So which politico's on here will stick their necks out and say when he will go, from today?

Put your name to the poll, if you dare.

Gayle 03-06-2009 11:35

Re: Gordon is a Moron until......

I see you haven't voted yet either, Tealeaf, what do you think? I suppose it depends a bit on how much of a hammering he gets tomorrow. I think it will be quite bad.

So I think he'll go - he probably won't make a rash decision on Friday but by the middle of next week the witch hunt will have hounded him into the ground.

I'm with you Gayle....we finally have something in common!

Gayle 03-06-2009 11:46

Re: Gordon is a Moron until......

I think we've agreed in the past - perhaps once at least. :D

He might possibly decided to call an election for October though. In which case, I think he'd probably stay as leader to lose the election so that who ever takes over has a clean slate.

But I think he'll announce whatever he decides, some time next week.

andrewb 03-06-2009 11:56

Re: Gordon is a Moron until......

I was torn between next week and the week after. I went for next week. Labour could come 3rd or even 4th tomorrow. He has lost his authority to govern and ministers are fleeing the sinking ship. If we get a new Prime Minister he or she may well argue that they need time to put forward their vision, so an early election might not be on the cards.

Studio25 03-06-2009 11:56

Re: Gordon is a Moron until......

From the very little I know about politics, I think he'll hang on until the bitter end. Unless something comes up in the meantime about his own expense claims or something equally dodgy, he'll take his cue from his predecessor and hang on until the very last moment.

Let's face it, the only thing that will get him re-elected is if a) someone declares war on us and b) he handles it well.

Yes o.k. all thing's have changed from pear shaped to squashy under foot, but, whatever is the alternative?

Lib dem's? Tory's? BNP?

Will we get a decent Government from the alternatives or just what we deserve?

jaysay 03-06-2009 16:07

Re: Gordon is a Moron until......

Well of course he'll try to hang on till the bitter end, just "getting the Job done" what the hell that means I've never managed to work out, seeing everything's been going tits up for eighteen months now. Can't really think that they'll sack him either, to elect another prime minister without an election is quite frankly taking the P out of the British public:(

right i know polling day is tomorrow but with all the crap thats been flying about recently i still havent a clue who i'm going to vote for...should i vote at all...we fought for the right to vote i know, but with everything that has gone on recently why should we vote? i bet there is one hell of a loss in people voting tomorrow compared to the last big one we had

If the cash controversy had been confined to just one party it might have made deciding who to vote for that bit easier. But as we have seen there have been representative from across the board feathering their nests. I'm really not sure who to vote for yet.

As Gordon said he wouldn't resign even for the sake of the party, I'm putting my money on him hanging on until 2010. But I think the general election will surely be called before then? I don't know... hmm...

If Gordon had any political savvy, he would have called a general election as soon as the economic crisis hit .... then he could happily have lost the election and have left the conservatives up fecal creek without a paddle.

However, given the present mess, he might as well hold on to the bitter end (by the way, the origin of that phrase is quite interesting).

The Telegraph has learned that the £13,000 that Miss Blears repaid voluntarily last month, in the wake of expenses disclosures about the sale of her flat in Kennington flat, south London, was to cover the sale proceeds of two of her designated 'second homes'.

A spokesman for Miss Blears confirmed that she had another previously sold property in Shad Thames, also in London, which she had designated as her second home for Commons allowances purposes, but which she had nominated as her main residence for capital gains tax purposes

Is anybody surprised at the disclosures that are still coming to light? I for one am certainly not seeing as the consensus amongst certain MP's was to try and keep the truth under wraps till July. I think there will be more and more ridiculous claims come to light but all will be deemed to be "within the rules". Sorry it is a cop out for fraud as far as I am concerned and the sad thing is that these very people are still allowed to sit in parliment. It is a travesty of the trust put into these representatives IMHO:mad:

Raises the question: "How many people actually do trust politicians"? Your first sentence seems to suggest "NO" ... :)

Well no Eric after these disclosures I would be surprised if even the most ardent Labour/Tory or whatever party people support could say with all honesty that their trust was intact. The fact is they have been claiming ridiculous amounts of money but in their defence all they can come back with is "they weren't breaking any rules". Sorry but that doesn't wash with me and a lot of the electorate who are having to tighten their belts. As far as I'm concerned a lot of MP's (not all) are just extracting the urine because it was "within the rules". I wish the Freedom Of Information Act had come in sooner and then we might have had a full picture of how the country has been milked. But as it is most parties are implicated making it difficult to decide who to vote for as it seems a lot are there just for their own gain and sod the electorate:mad:

Just a thought: can British MPs vote themselves salary increases as they do over here:confused: And, if they can and do, are those increases in line with what the peasants get:confused:

a question for British voters .......when you go to the polls how are the ballot papers printed .......candidates name followed by Party ? , or Party followed by candidates name ?, and are the they jumbled up (in no alphabetical order , example here in California during a national ballot for say the US Senate the candidates are listed in a different order in my county than the next county , supposed to cut down on voter fraud ) .

Unfortunately they do. There will be an end to that come the Christopher Kelly report later this year though.

I think it's done alphabetically by party - I'll report back after I've been to cast my vote.

Re: Gordon is a Moron until......

I have voted. A choice of 13 parties for the Euro Election all listed alphabetical.
Then all the names of the candidates in that party listed underneath in the order that they would take a seat.

To try to explain - because it's proportional representation - each party fields a number of candidates and they can specify the order that they are listed in. Then when the votes are counted it is determined how many candidates from each party gets in - this is done proportionally so for example, if it is decided that three candidates are elected from the Green Party then the first three candidates on their list will get in.

I noticed that Nick Griffin was No. 1 candidate for the BNP.

he read all the political parties manafestos and said that not one of them had " to be more honest in them "

teh host then said how polotitions were dealing with it was odd as well

he said the expenses fiasco was like having a swimming pool full of pee

no one was saying they peed in the pool but were saying this pool is full of pee therefore the swimming pool is a bad idea

Gordon Brown is a scapegoat for the rest of the party's failings. I feel quite sorry for him, as he is a very talented man and I do genuinely feel he tried quite hard to please people. Sadly he doesn't want to accept he failed, and it is probably because he can't quite grasp where he has gone wrong and the way people are suddenly turning against him...

So in a way he was a bit blinkered and is caught in a box thinking in the box while others are outside the aforementioned box and thinking outside it. He tries to please all but that is nigh on impossible. Lets hope he learns from this and takes it on the chin.
