Ghost bikes
I was watching CSI New York tonight and a cyclist was knocked off her bike. Anyway they re-opened the case 2 years after it happened and it mentioned ghostriders/ghost bikes anyway i googled it after and what it is if there is an accident with a push iron/bicycle and the cyclist dies or badly injured a group of people put a white bike and a notice of who and what happened with the date where the accident happened.
Ghost Bikes - The City's Viral Memorials for Cyclists -- New York Magazine Ghost Bikes | ghost bikes On that second link these ghostbikes are in a few countries nevermind just in New York. There are some in the UK - 1 in Manchester, 1 Fort William, 1 in Brighton, theres a few in London. |
Re: Ghost bikes
When I was told about this last night it was a bit scarry to say the least The web page showed one of these bikes chained to a lamp post and got me thinking. I know not the best thing to think about as a cyclist I will admit but after a bit of due consideration and pondering I think it might not be a bad idea. Flowers and cards are placed at the place were someone died as an example Mark Bolans little memorial where he crashed his Mini and died. Suppose in a way it might be a good idea if I am qum quated on the road by a large fast moving heavy metalic object, which in this day and age is a possibility. Maybe it may be a bit macabre thinking along these lines but hey gravestones do the same thing do they not?

Re: Ghost bikes
shillelagh.. check out the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_Mass_(bicycle)
this is why most folks hate/detest those who ride bicycles in urban environments |
Re: Ghost bikes
but what if a car crashed into a wall and someone died does this mean you are going to find a car painted white and left there as a memorial to whoever died. No you dont .. so whats the difference.
