89 Year Old Woman Dead For Five Years

I'm surprised nobody has raised the topic of the 89 year old ladies badly decomposed body being discovered after what could be five years. What sort of an uncaring society are we living in that somebody can lie undiscovered for so long? It makes me sad and so very angry that things like this happen.

Bernie, she probably had no family....and few visitors.
It is sad that things like this can hpppen.........some elderly people get out very little, and they would not be noticed as being missing by their neighbours.....we have some elderly people in our area and we check on them regularly.
I hope that one day(if the need arises) someone will do the same for us...but I somehow doubt it.

I actually saw this too, 5 years hell, did nobody have a sense of smell or did the odd fly in the windows not just raise an eyebrow. Think this woman lived in Glasgow or near by and her rent was paid by DD so didn't alert anybody there, but surely there was council tax and gas and leccy, plus water rates, you'd think a red flag would have popped up somewhere:(

What about her shopping? Oh I don't know but surely somebody should have noticed or has soceity really become so uncaring?

It's the sort of thing you would expect in Ossy, not Glasgow.

Apparently this old ladies flat was above a row of shops and she was known to the shopkeepers. A blatant case of "I'm alright Jack" their couldn't care less attitude is disgusting IMHO.

Paid directly into her bank account GC

And I guess her utilities would be paid by direct debit, so there would be movement in her bank account.......but if she was a regular visitor to the shops that she lived above, then it is truly sad that no-one thought to seek after her well being.

Sadly it's the sort of thing that could easily happen in our large cities.

Having lived in both London and Glasgow the population there is very transient, and especiially in London it usually takes twenty years befoe a neighbour would even return a hello, nevermind if you'd not been seen for a number of years.

Happily most of us in this area do have neighbours who care, and who we care for.

think rindys nailed it, big cities are far more transient than little dumps like accy, so therefore far higher probability of this happening. very sad but thats life.:(

This kind of thing can happen anywhere.
The older I get, the more i think that old folk become 'invisible' socially.
What I mean by that, is that they don't have the same social contacts, and families move away and live their own lives.
But what are the alternatives? The last thing I would want is for government involvement......a social worker or something of that ilk.....I wouldn't mind neighbours keeping an eye out for me though.

yep can happen anywhere, i was talking probability, i can only speak fer us but we keep n eye on owd cocks on there own, (least those we know about) this i think is less likely to happen in a big city, fer reason rindy stated.:)

But what about her electric and gas readings? I thought that by law they had to be taken every 18 months or so? I mean by the company that supplies the fuel to actuallly gain access and read the meter?
