Should we negotiate with the Taliban?
The Daily Mail..the God that gives all the Tories their instructions when posting on here.. has an article that states the Government should hold talks with the Taliban after Milliband hinted of such talks.... what say you?
MAX HASTINGS: Sorry, but we HAVE to talk to the Taliban: It's the only way to salvage some hope from this mess, argues military historian | Mail Online |
Re: Should we negotiate with the Taliban?
If we head down this road then all groups along these lines in any country will expect the same treatment. Going down this road will open us up to, as a country to what in my opinion would be blackmail. Ok we did in Northern Ireland but that has produced stability and progress and was an internal issue. The chances of us producing this else were? We cannot go forth with this without a large amount of ridicule and destain from the international community at large. The Taliban would only talk if they get what they want ie Afganistan the way it was before the present military action started.

yes we should get all their leaders in a room sat around a table..
then fill that room with poisonous gas or blow it up |
Re: Should we negotiate with the Taliban?
I think we should talk to the Taliban. It could go along these lines: "Well, for some strange reason, you don't seem to want us here; so, we are going to pack up and leave. You can now take your shiitehole of a country and drag it back to the late paleolithic where it belongs. You can have your islamic dictatorship, and treat your women like crap. In fact, because you have lousy football teams, you can use the stadiums for public floggings of women; so that the crowd of sexually repressed and twisted males can get their jollies. But don't pee us off. If you do we will come back; but this time with air support from the Israelis ... remember, the Hebrew word for "collateral damage" is "Bonus":mosher: And by the way; no more aid. .... Oh, and have a nice day".

Re: Should we negotiate with the Taliban?
My answer is no! pull our soldiers out of there, there is nothing to be gained by staying in Taliban country, let alone talking to these terrorist's.

Re: Should we negotiate with the Taliban?
Gadaffi, Arafat, Mandela were all terrorists. More recently Lebanon, Syria and Hamas in Palastine have supported terrorism but we negotiated with them. I prefer not to negotiate but when British people are held hostage the British Government cannot be hemmed in.
The Taliban are a flagship for Islamic extremism. Removing the Taliban won't stop Islamic extremism. I think the Afghans will be policing the urban areas soon and troops pulled back. It is a war we must win. With the Pakistani army to the south and the coalition to the North the Taliban are not free to support their extremist terrorist ideas. The moment we pull out the Taliban will overrun the Pakistan army to the south. The stakes are high. |

The values are in a way the same its just that certain people with influence seem to make a pigs ear of it sometimes. There is nothing wrong with the way both cultures and others view what they achieve, and people understand other cultures better. Its the spread of the technology that we take for granted that has educated us into the lives passions beliefs etc of other nations. To talk to the Talliban gives them in their (and my) view a victory. They will keep chipping away till they get what they want. The minority deciding whats best for the majority without general consensus is wrong regardless of creed, colour, religion, political persuation etc etc etc. |

That's really the extent of it, Eric. That and the fact that I was listening to Joy Division at the time of browsing this thread. I didn't think anyone would notice.
Should we negotiate with the Taliban? Well that depends what the UK's goal is. Does anyone know what that is? Answers on a postcard :) |
