student sues her college

because she hasnt got a job after graduation ...

BBC NEWS | Americas | Jobless graduate sues her college

she's saying that because she hasnt got a job she's sueing the college for her tuition fees ... saying they havent helped her get a job.

I know this is in america but no one has got a given right to a job just because you've got a degree .. you've got to be the right person for that job. Plus does she not realise there is a recession going on ... that companies are not taking as many people on ..

Can you imagine if students started sueing our universities over here because they havent got a job? They'd stop taking students!!!:D

These days colleges in the UK have all sorts of 'mickey mouse' degrees and qualifications. Often on the blurb that comes with the prospectus, incorrect information is given regarding usefulness in career routes. (In my opinion its a funding issue, the learning institution claims funding and then have to get 'bums on seats' to justify a continuation of this funding and more often than not any bum will do.)

The candidates then do the course, are given a rented cap and gown and go get their award. Thinking 'Oooh! look I got a picture of me in a cap and gown and a piece of paper that says I completed a course, I'm going to walk into one of the jobs in the prospectus.'

Off they go armed with all this to the prospective employer, who then says 'sorry, this is totally irrelevant for my needs', candidate argues and splutters about what they've been told by the college, employer shrugs and says 'next'

It's probably only a matter of time before this kind of legal action occurs in this country. Maybe it would be a good thing if it stops some of the underhand practices currently going on in our colleges, that literally 'mug' young people into doing useless degrees and courses.

Quite right, I'm considering going back for an Academic degree this year, I just can't find a College/University that has a course for:-

'The study of useless Education & Degrees that effects the population at large'.
