Re: ossy top res.
'On 24 November 1970 the dam failed and it is thought that internal erosion took place along the line of the tunnel. The breach, 20 m wide at crest level, extended down to the tunnel, which was washed out, large sections of the concrete segments being deposited downstream.'

Re: ossy top res.
There's a good photograph of the breached bank on here.
Breached dam of Higher Warmwithens Reservoir:: OS grid SD7324 :: Geograph British Isles - photograph every grid square! I do remember my family walking up there shortly afterwards, myself being then aged nearly six, and being amazed at the size of the boulders the water had moved. There were many other sightseers up there too, in the weeks after it had happened. |

Re: ossy top res.
Some good links thee Rindi, I can remember it as I was working at Shopfitters at the time and I can remember it playing havoc with the bridge at the bottom of Rhyddings St. there had to be extensive repairs to that bridge, during which one night on my way home I witness a movement of rats in and around the war memorial, now that was scary:eek::eek::eek:
