Flyers in the Accrington Observer

This week, Hyndburn Mela committee paid quite a lot of money to have an A5 flyer inserted into every Accrington Observer.

I got my paper this morning and there wasn't a flyer in it so can everyone let me know whether there was one in theirs or not?

How unlucky would it be for mine to be the one paper that didn't have a leaflet in?

Re: Flyers in the Accrington Observer

from my experience with delivering papers when i was a kid....the shops get the papers and get the leaflets/flyers seperate and have to put them in themselves, if the papershop owner can't be bothered doing that then they dont get sent out, i dont think it will be the Observers fault if this is so, the blame is on the papershop

I thought it was part of the production process - where's Neil when you need him (probably still swanning around Tesco)? He'd know!

I know wi the sunday/sat dailys Gayle the magazines are put in by the newsagent, cos ive had to ask where it is a couple of times. n the guy has got it from behind the counter, so i tend to think flashys right, its wether the newsagent can be arsed or not.

They are automatically inserted like you say Gayle. If you look at the paper you will see it is not folded in half, the front of the book over laps the back by about 1/2". This is so the inserting machines can open the book and place the insert inside before closing it again.

I would contact them ASAP and inform them that many of the copies sent out are missing your flyer.

Inserts are a big revenue stream for newspapers so I would expect them to do it properly. Typical of the Mirror they can't even get that right

The print cost was just over £300 and the insert cost was about £375 plus VAT. It's more effective than an advert though and it works out cheaper.

About £440 then Gayle, which is quite cheep if the jobs done right, I'd certainly be bending some ones ear;)

I'm very disappointed there was no flyer in my paper.

It could have increased my reading time from five to ten minutes.

I guess I hit the Jackpot 3 of the inserted leaflets!Purchased from Tesco's and yes from my days at t'Mirror ,the inserts are the hardest thing to get right.
Gone are the days when they had humpers, packers and stuffers all automated now, hence 3 copies in one paper!

I emailed the company about the lack of flyers in some papers and haven't had a response from them yet. Funnily enough they always responded fast enough when we were talking about placing the order!!!!!

the obserbver were paid to put the flyer in , unless the obserbver pay the papershop to do the arse work of putting a flyer in each paper i dont see why they should

It was put in by the Observer - not the newspaper shops.

Wouldn't it have been as ecconomical to have placed an ad in the former local paper?

Please see my earlier post - no, it is not cheaper to put an ad in.

I wouldn't think that would make a difference Lyndsey if they're done at source.

Re: Flyers in the Accrington Observer

Maybe the Observer would have made sure there was a flyer in every copy of the Observer if you had been advertising an event taking place in Stockport or Manchester.

Oooooh, cynical. Sorry, as we have discussed on here before, I am losing patience with the Observer featuring articles which are irrelevant to this area. :(

Taggy 15-08-2009 20:28

Re: Flyers in the Accrington Observer

I'm out of touch with advertisement costs, how much would a similar sized advert to the flyer have cost in the Observer itself??

I think you have to take into consideration some naturally fall out in transit... how many times have you seen flyers on the floor near the mags/newspapers.

looking at this thread upto now 12 have got one and 7 haven't including you Gayle...

For clarity mine was bought at the newsagents in the Mall in Blackburn, just before the escalator.

Instead of wasting lottery payer's money on this flyer nonsense - and let's face it, lottery outlays have halved over the last five years because of exactly this sort of thing - why didn't you just ask for the local Imans to make an announcement at the Mosque's Friday Prayers inviting everyone up to Oakhill Park?

I am not interested in which pub in Stockport does the best food.

That bit bugs me every week.
