Well they do have a reporter at Asda occasionally.

Why they can't rent a room somewhere local beats me, why should we have to visit Asda at their convenience, or have to ring a Manchester number.

Re: Accy Observer

got it this afternoon and read it, thats a load of rubbish they are spouting about keeping it local, got to the whats on section nearer the back and have they got a list of whats on at vue cinema in accy? have they sh!te, they have a list of whats on at appollo cinema in.......BURNLEY, they put in about the thing that happened in Mercer park in Clayton(last week)...and said it was this week, carboot sales in Rossendale,Trafford and Chelford and jobs in Manchester....whatever happened to the 'schools' section of the paper?

its still a loada crap if you ask me, i only buy it now to put in the bottom of the birds cage

Gayle 17-09-2009 19:21

Re: Accy Observer

I think the news is local but it's the what's on section and the jobs section that are no longer local. I don't want to know about a pub in salford, I want to know about a local pub.

Local pub reviews/sandwich shop reviews
Jobs available for local people
What's on for local events

Re: Accy Observer

I'm afraid this paper is now a pale shadow of its former self. Very Sad!

I too am very disappointed in the Accy Observer although I must say that on- line there's the Expats site and I've managed to find quite a lot of old friends. However, they don't update it enough.
The only things about Accy are who has 'departed' etc.....

Re: Accy Observer

Ive never got the job section in the Observer, its always jobs in manchester! And now the big "book" in the observer also anoys me telling about events and life which is not even in accrington! I still read and buy it but it never has local news in and if it does then its not even that good, i have to admit there are a few good storys sometimes to read but not very often though!

But like all other things , papers cost money to print so all this Manchester and other non accrington stuff are adverts probably paying for half of the cost to print the things! Im glad its still going , but maybe their should be a new editor like people have said on here :)

didnt want to make a new thread about this so... What does people think about the citizen. Is this the crappest newspaper you ever read or what? sometimes no news on front page just a big bloody advert...or actually no... there are two front pages... with basically crap inside. It feels like a big paper but then when you pick it up a plethora of ****e comes out of it. Sometimes i feel like just leaving it behind the door to wipe my feet on

Ain't had one for years, ever since I bollocked the chap who was delivering one Christmas. All year this chap used to put 4 copies on the stairs in our block of flats, like help yourself, then mysteriously 3 weeks before xmas they started dropping on the mat behind the door, strange thought, then just before xmas a little knock came at the door and the chap was there asking for a Christmas tip, won't say on a family web site just exactly what I said, but he got the message:rolleyes:

At least they seem to be trying. Shouldn't have a go really. They have admitted their error - on the front page of the paper - and have outlined the changes they have made and changes planned for the future, all seemingly designed to make the paper more about the town. Should be congratulated from my point of view, Some of you are just looking for something to moan about, in my opinion.

The problem is a lot of us on here have grown up with the Observer, we're talking over 50 years worth, here not just a few years. We can remember when it was a decent local rag, you knew the reporters and their ad reps and when it dropped on your at behind the door it was like a friend dropping in, in comparison its a waste of time today, the layout is wrong for a start, you may like to look at the last Accrington edition and then compare, When all's said and done its people like Neil, Cash and myself that matter, because when people like us decide to kick the Obs to the kerb your out of a job, period;)

Re: Accy Observer

I think they are trying really hard here ... the articles this week/last week have been more dynamic and eye catching.

You all have to bear in mind that if MEN (Guardian Group) had not taken over our paper, then we probably wouldn't have one at all. Papers rely on advertising mainly, and not many of our local businesses (what's left) have the funds, so has been left to other areas to advertise in it, which they are willing to do in the hope that we will be a good catchment area for them.

I say support them at least.

Bet the original owners didn't come out badly on the sale to this group .. just like the past mill owners when we were sold down the river ..

Can't see anything Gayle. May have missed it.

They have mentioned that PB is throwing his hat in for the General Election though ... :(

They also reported that the Labour Group spoke about taxi drivers at the meeting of Cabinet - when it was actually at Full council.

There was a leaflet in about the Coppice Gayle and they've stopped reviewing pubs from other areas, well the last two weeks that is, but still not convinced

Gayle 25-09-2009 11:22

Re: Accy Observer

Yes, at least the Coppice leaflet was in. I wasn't relying on them to print anything about it so I paid to have the leaflets inserted about it.

Hopefully, this time there's a better spread of people who got a leaflet - after the Mela fiasco with leaflets I wasn't really relying on that being done right either.
