BT Phone scam
Been on the news this morning that spammers have found another way of relieving people of their readies. They are ringing BT customers saying that their account is in arrears and they must bring it up-to-date there and then by credit card or debit card or their phone will immediately be cut off. To prove this they tell the person to hang up and try and make an outgoing call, some people have actually fallen for that and paid up:eek:

Re: BT Phone scam
That is because some people are stupid.
one of the banks I use phoned me the other day and asked for me by name. They then said they needed to do a security check to prove who I was. I said hang on a minute you phoned me, it should be me doing the security check on you not the other way around. I asked if there was a problem with the account and was told no. I then politely ( don't laugh I can be polite :) ) said, please write to me with whatever it is you want. The person said ok and I put the phone down. This same bank does this every few months and always gets the same response from me. :D |
Re: BT Phone scam

too many scams around yeah magazines used to have those flyers with simiular things all the time with those 'win a holiday scratch here and then ring the hotline at £5 per min for 3 mins and win something worth £5' My mum fell for a trick on holiday. She was told she had won a digital camera but she had to send off for it....all she had to do was pay the £6 P&P... it came with a few 1st stamp stamps on it and it was a VGA camera. Like a throwaway cam but instead you usb'd it across to pc. It wasn't even 1 megapixel. Prob worth £1 |

Re: BT Phone scam
its about time BT allowed customers to choose which countries can have calls put through to them like you could select to block calls from nigeria and india and not have call centers or scamartists bothering you
it cant be that hard to do |
