£6 broadband tax for everyone with a phone to be introduced before next election | Mail Online
Looks like there is going to be a £6 a year tax put on every landline to pay for faster connection speed, are you in favour or against and how will they collect it. To me 50p a month is neither here nor there and if we can all get the faster link then why not

to me its not the amount, its just a NEW way to screw us, as we pay monthly fer broadband why pay more fer improvements to the service.:rolleyes:

I seem to remember some time last year BT shareholders voted against investing in fibre optics on the grounds that it would effect their dividends, so although I agree 50p a month isn't a great deal, I would rather keep it in my pocket until they, (shareholders), invest in 'their' Companies future.

Then they can have an extra 50p or possibly more for having invested wisely and improving the service they offer to me.

Posted via Mobile Device behind the bar of the railway it costs 50p for an orange and soda! Why though should we pay £6 a year for something that the company should be providing? It has shareholders so why not go to them and say youve had a share in the profits for so long nows the time to put money back in so you get your dividend in the future.

So BT will be supplying orange and soda for £6 a year - sounds like a bargain to me ;)

just wait and see a small tax will suddenly creep up to the equivalent of a tv licence fee in a matter of years

we pay BT for the phone line and then pay them or another internet provider for teh internet service , most exchanges can already handle high speed internet and if anything BT should be forced to invest in upgrading those that cant so that everyone can receive the same level of service as each other , somone living close to the exchange can get say a 32mb speed connection where as those living further away can only get 4mb but still have to pay the same

this is just the govenment finally getting around to adding additional tax to teh internet to get out of the hole they have made because lets not forget we already pay tax or vat on the internet we already have because even if you get free internet from sky etc you still pay for it as it is part of a package deal

also dont forget the BBC have tried to get a internet licence fee introduced so dont be surprised to see that raise its ugly head again in the future

labour know they are on teh way out and will probably bring in more unpoular taxes knowing that they wont be around afterwards to get the flak from the public

dont fall for the cr@p about getting faster speeds , faster speeds are already here its just BT refusng to spend any of its billions of proffit in upgrading their equiptment

Over in Hull we don't have BT or in fact any competition at all. We just have Kingston Communications. We pay £10 a month phone line rental (which is same as BT I think) yet don't even have a phone installed. We only want the line for broadband! The cost of upto 20Mb (so for us 8Mb) broadband is £30 here with a 75GB cap. That's £40 a month when I could get Sky+, Unlimited broadband and phone rental with Sky anywhere else in the country for £31. They should sort Kingston's monopoly out before deciding to add yet more tax.

Think it would be nice if they just gave us what they promised...........8 mg.......they always put up to, which seems to cover them for screwing us :(

I manage nearly 6 on BT n i am a good mile n a half from the disfunctional and older exchange in Gmouth.
